Confession Wednesday
I've been resistant to Theme Posts because I want to feel like I have the freedom to post whatever I feel like talking about whenever I feel like talking about it. Suppose I started True Story Tuesdays but one Tuesday I decided to talk about how bored I'm getting with Heroes instead. Just think of the emails and comments I would get from all of my horrified readers who would feel completely let down by my selfish decision to change the schedule on them!
So I've resisted. And I'm sort of still resisting. This isn't going to be a definite every Wednesday sort of thing, but in honor of my favorite morning DJ, I'm going to start Confession Whichever-Wednesdays-I-Feel-Like-Doing-This!
Today's confession is this:
I'm glad Jason dumped Melissa and picked Molly.
Gasp!
I don't watch The Bachelor. The idea of one hot guy choosing from 25 (or so) hot girls for a relationship that will be over before the finale airs is just not my cup of tea. I'm really not a reality/competition fan at all. Give me Deadliest Catch or Dirty Jobs or Extreme Home Makeover anytime. I like reality shows that are, well, real.
I got sucked into one season of The Bachelor. It was the one with Dr. Travis Whatshisname from Tennessee and he and the contestants met up in Paris. I got sucked in because Travis was really, really cute, and a doctor, AND the show was set in Paris. I LOVE Paris. And, of course, the day after that finale aired, the story came out that he and the girl he chose had gone separate paths almost immediately and she was dating a Tennessee Titan.
That was the beginning and the end of my Bachelor watching days.
Thanks to Valentine, I've been getting weekly recaps of all the highs and lows of this current season. It's like I've been keeping up with the show and not actually having to watch any of it. I knew going into the finale that everyone was hoping Jason would pick Melissa. Everyone claimed that they were perfect together and that Molly was crazy or whatever.
Well, everyone in America knows what happened on Monday night and it seems like everyone has an opinion. And that opinion is pretty universally that Jason sucks and Melissa got completely screwed over and that Jason and Molly will just end up breaking up in a few weeks and he'll go on down the list to the next girl and the next.
I have no idea what went on during the show. I didn't watch it. But I say that any guy who goes on a reality show like The Bachelor claiming to be looking for the love of his life is lying through his teeth. How many of those relationships have actually worked out anyway? Contestants--
Okay, stop right there. Now, I've dated a couple of guys over the years (don't tell Philip since he thinks he's the One and Only!) and I have never called any of them a Contestant. Contestants are for games. This is a game show. The only difference between The Bachelor and The Price is Right is that you can't swap out the showcase at the end of The Price is Right.
Anyway, the reason I have an opinion on this: it has been an absolute BLAST watching people go completely nuts over this shocking turn of events. I couldn't care less who Jason chose. I don't know the guy, I don't know the girls, I don't know who's right for whom and I don't really want to know. But it has been a lot of fun watching my friends, listening to my morning DJ and the news shows all freak out over Jason's terrible choice.
It's like everyone is having a complete meltdown over this.
Reality TV is kind of fun again.
Angry at Jason and feel like talking about it? I'll listen!
Do you have something you'd like to confess? I'd LOVE to hear it!

I stopped watching years ago. ABC should be happy. Everyone's talking about The Bachelor. That's exactly what they wanted. It's RIGGED!!! Each year, there just happens to be a twist of some sort? Of course. They can't do the same things over and over. No one would watch.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch the bachelor either, but i agree, it was rigged.
ReplyDeleteI think that if he really likes molly, then good for him and i hope they have a great life. Who cares if he dumped melissa? people dump people every day. you can't get to know someone and decide you want to marry them on a tv show because nothing will be real.
Anyway, I just stopped by to welcome you to SITS and it looks like i'm just going on and on about a show I don't even watch lol.
So, without further ado..
Welcome to SITS!
I don't follow any of these cringe-worthy dating reality shows, though I have taken a peek at some on VH1 solely for the laughs. Solely!
ReplyDeleteMy confession?
I tell my hubster that I've been writing more than I really am. I get caught up reading blogs when I should be writing. Yikes!
I will introduce you to Reality Steve.
ReplyDeletewww.realitysteve.com
He blew the ending wide open weeks ago, and he has a lot of theories about what happened.
Hot Pants and Lisa M: I don't know if it was rigged or not, but it wouldn't surprise me! Ratings were through the roof, too.
ReplyDeleteAkilah: So far, I have to admit that's what I've been doing too! I want to write. I need to write. But there are just so many goodies out there on the web!
Kristina: Awesome! I will check it out, thanks!
I can't believe what a big deal is has become as well. It's insane.
ReplyDeleteOh, and since you mentioned getting bored with Heroes, I just have to state that I am SO bored with Desperate Housewives. That dude that plays Edie's husband needs to just kill whoever he is going to kill and move on. They are dragging it out WAY, WAY too much! Thoughts?
Oh, and that's my confession...I watch (religiously) Desperate Housewives.
I'm still into it, too, Em! Although this season isn't as exciting as I expected a five year jump to be. Dave Williams (Neil McDonough) is really boring and I can't wait for him to be gone!
ReplyDeleteI am quite wistful for the days when we all really believed that "Reality TV" was real. Remember how shocking it was when it was first revealed that some scenes on Survivor had been re-shot and stuff?
ReplyDeleteI don't watch The Bachelor either, but OMG it is sweeping the country. I couldn't believe how fast there were blog posts and facebook updates about stupid Jason :)
ReplyDeleteOk. Here's my confession: The Bachelor has such huge ratings because there are people like me in this world. And, thanks to my sister's TiVo, I got to see a few episodes of this season's Bachelor. And I really don't think it's rigged, and I think Jason did the right thing. If you don't love someone you should break it off, even if it makes you unpopular. So there you go!
ReplyDeleteI have never been able to get into this show... and I watch too much TV already. haha!!
ReplyDeleteBut it was all any of the ladies in the staff room could talk about today! I didn't watch the show and I could probably give you a full play-by-play based solely on staffroom chatter. haha
Melissa was classy, Molly a skank. That says it all!
ReplyDeleteComing over from SITS to say hello and WELCOME!
Janet: I do remember those days! I think that was right around the time when people still had...what was that called?...Oh yeah, integrity.
ReplyDeleteD: Haven't been on Facebook since this happened. Can't wait to see what my friends said about it!
Kel ma Belle: It was YOUR fault I watched the Travis/Paris season! Remember that?
Shop Girl: I know how you feel!
Aubrey: I wouldn't know. But there is only so much editing you can do to a person, so I do believe that pretty much what you see on camera is not far from the truth--except when people like Jason are flat out lying. And thanks for the welcome!
Hey thanks for coming over to my blog!
ReplyDeleteI did watch the Bachelor. Every season I say I won't watch, then the stupid promos for the show suck me in. Well, I spend my nights watching it, rolling my eyes and laughing at the silliness of it all. I mean, really? 25 girls? And really? Every season the Bachelor (or bachelorett) says "I"m falling in love with all of them." Ok so....hint hint hint hint.... IT ISN'T LOVE then. It is lust. True love is really for one person. And how can you LOVE someone with all the cameras on you. And how can you LOVE someone you have known for 8 weeks (or whatever it is)? I dated my husband for 4 years. Anyway. I think any man or woman who goes on that show has some issues/baggage. I think Jason has some commitment issues or something. I don't know why his first wife and he got divorced but I would bet money there is some "issue" there! Hee hee
Thanks for listening! :o)
Hey there!! Great post...I have never watched the Bachelor. But here's my confession....I once got hooked on watching old episodes of Melrose Place on SoapNet.
ReplyDeleteI got caught up in this season mainly because I really like Jason when he was on the Bachelorette show and I felt sorry for him after being dumped. I'm not sure if this ending was rigged or not but it definitely has turned me off to watching any future episodes of this show.
ReplyDeleteMy confession for the day: I ate the last of the oreos and when my husband asked who I ate them, I blamed it on the kids (after they were in bed, of course, so he couldn't go ask them)
