How Do You Know When a Dream Means You Need Help?
Some recurring dreams are pretty fun, like the one where I'm
Other dreams aren't so good.
Like the one I had last night. It's the third or fourth time I've had this dream, and as far as I can remember, it has been essentially the same every single time.
In the dream (which could also be classified as a nightmare, really):
- I am in a brightly colored room with a man who has a knife.
- I look down and realize that I also have a knife, and mine is bigger, but I am less comfortable holding it.
- At some point early on, I realize that the man is a serial killer than I have been researching or investigating or something of the sort, though I am not a law enforcement officer of any kind.
- The man has blonde, curly hair, is tall and attractive. And he's not anyone I have ever met in my real life. As far as I can remember.
- He is trying to explain something to me. Why he's a serial killer? Where he came from? What happened in his childhood? Why he prefers Cap'n Crunch to Lucky Charms? I'm not sure what he's trying to explain, but every time he says something to me, I reach out and stab him shallowly in the torso, and then he cuts my arm three times while methodically saying the words, "Let me explain it One. More. Time." This happens over and over again until I finally force myself to wake up.
Or is this somehow a good dream? After all, I have a bigger knife, even if I'm not so sure how to use it. And the guy seems to be toying with me rather than just trying to kill me. And he's trying to explain something to me after I have been trying to learn more about him. Almost like he respects me in some weird way.
I'm at a loss. If it was just a one-time thing, I probably wouldn't even have thought twice about it. But something is obviously going on with my subconscious.
I guess I should just be glad I'm not the killer.
Okay, even creepier. I was trying to find a good picture to go along with this post and the very first image that came up was of this guy:
His name is Axel Whitehead and until thirty seconds ago, I had only ever seen him one place in my life. He is the serial killer in my dream! I'm sure of it! He competed on Australian Idol four years ago. How the heck would I know him from that? This is just getting crazy.
Thoughts?? Suggestions?? Anyone know of a good electroshock therapist?

I'd probably be a serial killer if that were my name too
ReplyDeleteWhoa.
ReplyDeleteMaybe your really two chefs and he just wants to be better like you. And your yelling at him for burning the sauce for the VIP that night and he's trying to say that he really meant to put in Capn Crunch not....
Wait, was this Top Chef?
But seriously. That's wild that you found a pic of this guy and he's the one in your dream.
Whoa. Again.
I'm bad at deciphering dreams. I have no clue what they mean. Just a few posts ago, I had a medieval time period dream and I got some great feedback from a blogger or two, or three. One even checked her dream book for me, which was cool.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that the serial killer and a guy that exists in real life (and you have never seen before) are one and the same, made me shiver a little...
ReplyDeleteHmmm...why don't you just dream about hot soap opera stars like I do? Seriously though, I've heard two possibly relevant theories on dreams.
ReplyDeleteOne is that YOU are actually every character in your dream. So, maybe think about that. In what way might you be like this guy? Is there something you want the world to understand about you that they don't seem to get?
The second is that dreams aren't so much literal as they are your brain's interpretation of feelings. So, the idea is to think of you FEEL in the dream, and then try to figure out what aspect of your life makes you feel that way.
I'm thinking it sounds like a book plot. They say tons of authors come up with book plots in dreams. Can you imagine Stephen King's dreams? So, write it down!
ReplyDeleteOh, I stopped by to welcome you to SITS:)
It means you are not getting enough chocolate in your diet and you need to call your mother.
ReplyDeleteeek and one tiny *shudder*
ReplyDeleteDid you have a big bowl of Top Ramen before bed....I hear there is a wicked sodium content in those badboys.
Yikes, I have no clue on this one.
You're weird. That's what it means. HAHAHAHA!
ReplyDeleteJust stopping by from SITS to say hi. I never know what my dreams mean. Dreams are usually pretty interesting.
ReplyDeleteCome checkout my spring giveaway!
Whoa. That's crazy.
ReplyDeleteI have serial killer dreams too. I think mine stems from too much Cold Case Files and I Survived. But isn't it strange how in the dream, you know their a serial killer. Girl, now I don't want to go to sleep tonight. AAAAAHHHH.
The serial killer represents some sort of authority figure you have been going to for advice. I'm sure you can think of "someone" you've been "talking" to lately about something extremely important to you.
ReplyDeleteFortunately, this "person" has given you your answer; however, this answer makes you mad, hence the stabbing. Unfortunately, for now, the answer is still the same, hence the "one. more. time." response from the serial killer.
I think the size of the knife represents your power in the situation. Obviously because you have the bigger knife it means you ultimately have the power to take the next step. The fact that the serial killer has a knife as well lets you know that "he" has the same power, but because "his" is smaller means he won't really interfere with whatever decision you go with. But, the fact that he has a knife lets you know he is worth listening to.
In other words, you know exactly what this dream means. ;)
Thank you all for your feedback. Dreams are very interesting things, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteEm, very insightful. I hadn't really thought about it in that way, but now I have more to ponder!
