The Real Birthday Recap
My birthday was on Friday, but on Thursday night, I came home to this:
Apparently, "Plan B" did not involve hanging out with The Roommates on Saturday (although we still did that), but involved decking my room out with fun balloons and streamers and handmade paper cupcakes and sign for my walls. Fun, right?
The "cake" was a box of Hostess Cupcakes with candles in it. (Someone's been reading my blog!) Next to that was a lighter and a tape recorder with a very interesting lovely rendition of "Happy Birthday."
No one has ever done that for me before. When I was a kid, friends would decorate each other's little school desks for birthdays, but never mine. When I worked in an office that had cubicles, everyone's cubicles got decorated but mine. My friends always take care of me, of course (because they're the best!), but this was really, really fun and not AT ALL what I was expecting!
Friday was interesting. Thanks to my CC District, I had a Birthday Holiday. Yay! No work! I had plans. Big plans. Plans that involved doing stuff for me and having fun. I started a "tradition" of sorts a few years ago that I ALWAYS go to a movie on my birthday. Usually alone, but I really like going to movies by myself. After that, I wanted to get my hair cut, because I am LONG overdue for a major trim.
Well, that didn't exactly happen and I ended up spending a majority of the afternoon hanging out at my mom's house waiting for Philip and my mom to get there. It was no biggie, though. I got to watch Oprah for the first time in, like, a million years.
Philip showed up sometime in the late afternoon with all the stuff for dinner. Because he is a Grille Master Extraordinaire, he grilled up some steaks. Just look at how big they were:
Dinner was awesome. Afterward, we planned to watch The Dark Knight because my mom had never seen it and I've been dying to watch it again. But, of course, my mom had a "quick little task" for us to "help" her with.
(Translation: "Please spend the rest of the evening hanging a towel rack on the newly repainted bathroom wall, using barely decipherable instructions while I sit in the other room and take this call.")
So, we didn't get to watch The Dark Knight.
But we did get to eat cake:
Then we did presents and I got the laptop. I am still kind of in shock over that. Luckily I have until next January to think of a gift that even comes sort of close to approaching this level of Awesome. My mom got me a gift card to buy a Disneyland Annual Pass! Mine expired right after I moved right down the street and I haven't been able to afford to buy a new one. Guess where I'll be spending Spring Break!
So that was pretty much it for the Birthday Festivities. But, seriously, I don't think I could handle more! It was a really great birthday. I've had some amazing birthdays in my life, but this will probably always be one of the most memorable.
It's times like these that I realize that I really do have a great life.
