Giveaway Winners Announced! and an Update on the Summer of Karen: Week 3

Hey, everyone! I know you're all super excited to find out how I'm doing on my big summer goals, right??

But before we can get back to ME, I'm pleased to announce the winners of my Los Angeles Diaries book giveaway! There are TWO lucky winners today, my friends, and remember the deal. Once you read the book, you have to let me know your thoughts whether you love it or not and then you have to pass the book on to someone else. You can give it away on your blog, or hand it off to a friend or sneak it into a stranger's grocery bag on your way out of the store. It's totally up to you.

And now, without further ado, the first winner is:

Shawn! She wrote:
Well, if you read my blog, you know that I love giveaways and I LOVE books!! So, I am in!

(I am busy trying to remember some quotes from Star Wars---so I can send that video to you----would R2D2 suffice?)
You bet R2D2 will suffice, my friend. I always loved that troublesome little android!

And I'm totally stealing this idea of posting their entry comment from Kristina, because winner number 2 is:

Kristina! She said:
This kind of book is right up my alley.
Yes, Kristina, it is right up your alley. You have been very open about your secret ambition to be best friends with Amy Winehouse!

So congratulations to both of you! I'm sure you'll regale us all with excellent reviews. Email me your addresses and I'll get your books to you right away. (And I mean it this time. Right. Away.)

All right, now I have an update on the Summer of Karen. It's the end of Week 3. I didn't post an update last week because I was on my exciting trip to Tahoe. I really appreciate everyone that emailed and/or commented to see how it was going. Thanks!

Anywho, here we go:
  1. Read 1 book per week. The list must include the following, which have been sitting on my nightstand for WAY too long: 1984, Atonement, Emma, The Los Angeles Diaries.--I finished Los Angeles Diaries and started 1984. But then I forgot it at work yesterday and can't get back to it until Monday. I also finished 2 other books. Which means that in 3 weeks, I've finished 3 books and started a 4th.
  2. Watch at least 1 movie per week from my Netflix list.--I finished the complete series of Wonderfalls. It's a 3 disc series, so that counted. I have 2 movies sitting here waiting for me now and I'm about to start one of them, as soon as this is posted.
  3. Go to at least 2 Angels' games.--Not yet. But I will soon!
  4. Go to Sea World once.--Not yet.
  5. Go to Disneyland at least twice.--I really will. But haven't gone yet. I'm taking my sister sometime next month.
  6. Edit/rewrite one chapter of my novel each week.--Chapter 2 was really complicated, so I scrapped most of it and started that chapter over. Still working on it.
  7. Clean and organize my room, my desk at work, and the office at the Lodge.--Still working on the room situtation. But I did buy a new toilet seat for my bathroom! My life is SO exciting. Suck it, Facebook!
  8. Go on at least one trip out of town--ANYWHERE.--Yeah, I totally should have counted Tahoe...But I'm hoping I can maybe go to St. George to visit Kelli after she moves next month.
  9. Lose 15 pounds.--Pretty sure I haven't made any progress on that yet. But I'm hearing so much about Satan Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred that I'm thinking about giving that a try.
  10. Go Indoor Skydiving.--Haven't gone yet, but I'm still planning it.
  11. Visit the Getty.--I set a date to go next month with my roommate. Can't wait!
  12. Finally use the crepe pan I got for Christmas.--You'd think I would have gotten the easiest one first, but nope. Not yet...
So that's how it's going so far. How's your summer treating you??

  1. Congrats to the winners! Hope you enjoy the book. Your idea of passing it along is a good one, Karen.

Good job on Summer of Karen. I can't believe you haven't been to Disneyland yet. Don't you live within walking distance of the park? You need to go there. Better yet, I'll go for you!

Our summer is GREAT. It's been complete with rain every single day. We're lucky to even get outside!

  2. Yay!!! You rock, my dear! I am very excited to read this---I just joined a book blogging club, so I have to finish THAT book, but I will definitely read this one after that.

Hey---you should belong to the club---the girl who started it is a sweetheart...and we don't have very many members....its readabooksaveabrain.blogspot.com.

    My e-mail is swaneesinger(at)gmail(dot)com

  5. Sounds like you've checked more off your to-do list than I have. I just had one simple home renovation on my list. Not even close.

  6. It sounds like you're on a roll!
I only have one goal this summer and that's to not have to move the family into the minivan by August. Hubby lost his job in Feb and he's looking hard. I keep hoping an art teacher position will pop up.

  7. Karen--if you do the the 30 day shred, I just might have to do it with you. I need to do something... My non-stop eating is out of control. I love food! :) But seriously, I am really trying to get focused, and maybe that is just what I need. Let me know.

  8. Emily: I do live within walking distance and I have an annual pass I need to activate. Don't go FOR me. Go WITH me. :-) Our summer has been cold and threatening rain. Wonder what Al Gore thinks about that... ;-)

Shawn: I'd love to join! I'll come check it out! Oh, and it's a real, actual book. So I need your real, actual address. :-)

Gina: Thank you, and yes they are.

Kristina: It's true. The Snuggie is a worker of miracles.

Katherine: From my experience, home repairs are rarely simple. I'm sure you're doing great!

Cindy: Something will work out! It always does! But I am really sorry your hubby lost his job. And at least you have a mini-van instead of a VW Bug. Everyone gets their own room. :-)

Kristi: I think Katie and I decided we're doing it. I'd love to have you in on it. We'll have to figure out the logistics.
