Well, it's that time again! Confession Wednesday! And this week, it's time to confess your deepest, darkest Halloween secrets.
Sadly, I don't really have one. Honest. I tried and tried to think of something juicy to write about for today's confession. But nothing came to me. Then I thought of changing the theme. But that seemed wrong since Halloween is just a few days away. I could write about the haunted house(s) I lived in, but I'm saving my really good ghost story for Friday.
So I am left with nothing to confess on my own Confession Wednesday.
I guess I'll just say that I'm not such a big fan of Halloween. I'm not one that believes it's an evil pagan holiday or that anyone that celebrates it is secretly (or not-so-secretly) a devil worshiper. I'm just not that into it. No particular reason.
When I was a kid, I used to really look forward to it. I couldn't wait to dress up as a princess or a witch. One year I was a television, which was kind of weird, but I thought it was cool. I last went trick-or-treating at age 13, with a bunch of friends. I was a freshman in high school and I knew we were a little too old to be out there, but that mean lady didn't really have to chase us off her porch with a broom. I mean, come on!
Somewhere along the way, I just sort of lost interest. I don't care about carving pumpkins, although every year I swear I'm going to this time. I'm not that into decorating the house, but I don't mind if other people do. I hate being told I have to wear a costume to something, because I can never think of anything creative that's also affordable and won't look ridiculous.
(Yes, I understand the point is to look ridiculous. Whatever.)
But there is one thing I like to do every Halloween. I really like to watch a good scary movie.
I'm sort of a freak because I love scary movies, but I hate to be scared.
How does that work? I don't really know. I watch a lot of movies with my eyes partly covered, and I've spent many a trip to the theater counting ceiling tiles. But I do enjoy a good scary story, for some weird reason.
And so, most Halloweens, I am perfectly content to curl up with a warm Snuggie and a big bowl full of
Psycho is Hitchcock's masterpiece. Anthony Perkins. Janet Leigh. It's creepy and suspenseful and there are STILL scenes that make me jump, even though I've seen this a thousand times. Plus I giggle at the fact that my dad is totally freaked out by this movie.
The Shining. A film about a writer that goes crazy. What's not to like about that?
Scream. What's weird is that I'm reeeeallly not into slasher films. Like, AT ALL. But I love this one. Maybe it's because of Neve Campbell's amazing acting depth. Yeah...
All right, well, that about does it for me today. Sorry I was kind of lame on this week's confession. I'll try to do better next time.

Oh, The Shining!! One of my favorite horror movies. Thank you for stopping in today at Split Rock Ranch!
I feel the same way about Halloween as you do. I do love a good "boo-you" type movie. I too like the ones you mentioned here, and my new favorites are the Grudge 1-3. They scare me good. The other most recent one that got me good was a Haunting in Connecticut. Have you seen it? Its a good scare cuz it is a true story. And then the one that is in theaters now - Paranormal Activity, I just saw it and did a little review of it on my blog. Go see it if you want but beware! THanks for sharing. I love the idea of confession Wednesday. I'm new to your blog so I just may start using that as my Wed. theme.
Ahh. The clown ...brrrrr. And of course the Storm...One one-thousand Two one-thousand Boom!
I love Scream. I also love What Lies Beneath although it's more suspense and drama than anything. It made me jump out of my seat a few times though.
i'll confess:
i eat my favorites out of the halloween candy and then blame it on other people.
i do this everywhere i go.
so beware.
I can NOT watch scary movies. I just can't. Even not quite so scary movies. Even after watching something as harmless as Sixth Sense, I couldn't sleep for most of the night. I'm a wimp and I know it, and that's my confession.
I'm really not that into Halloween either, but I do love scary movies! Like you, I don't like being scared either, yet I'm drawn to horror/scary movies. :-)
I love Halloween but mostly because ghosts and hauntings fascinate me. Also, I just love the weather this time of year...that crispness in the air, the promise of the excitement to come as the holidays fast approach.
I've always loved Halloween big time!!! I think I would cry if my kids weren't excited about carving pumpkins and decorating the house. My mom never did so I always vowed when I had kids I'd go all out!
I love the movie Scream!!! Oh and Poltergeist was pretty freaky.
I love dressing up and Halloween...probably because when I was younger I didn't get to do much with it because my parents thought we were worshiping Satan by going out dressed up as ghosts to get candy..... I love scary movies but not slashers...but I was totally obsessed with Scream for the longest time.
Any chance we're traveling abroad together today? I know, I'm last minute as always....
Have you ever seen "The Strangers"? I saw it last weekend- I don't watch many scary movies, not because I don't like them....I just don't. Anyway- that was a good one!
