I Freakin' Love That Little Monkey

Critics and opponents scoff, but there seriously is something to the Power of the Rally Monkey.

I am still pinching myself because I can't believe I was there. I can't believe I saw that.

Derek Jeter (BOOO!) was tossed two balls in the first inning and then hit a solo home run. Part of me thought that I should just get in my car and go home. But another part knew it was only the first inning and there was a lot of baseball to go.

I didn't realize there were ten and a half more innings.

When Alex Rodriguez hit a solo home run in the 4th to take the game to 3-0, a fan actually THREW IT BACK! I've always wanted to see that happen. And when it did, I just got this feeling that things were going to be okay.

Just a few minutes later, Howie Kendrick hit a home run to put the Angels on the scoreboard. And in the 6th inning, Vladimir Guerrero hit a two-run home run that tied the game.

I literally felt electricity running up my arms from the excitement that roared through the stadium.

And then...the Rally Monkey.

Every time that little guy came up on the screen and started jumping around, the fans screamed and cheered and magic happened.

The game was tied, but it wasn't over. The Angels scored another run and took the lead! But the Monkey didn't stop. He kept on going. A substitute catcher, Jeff Matthis, threw a Yankee base-stealer out at second so that when the next batter hit another home run, it only tied the game up again, instead of giving them the win.

Eleven innings. Jeff Matthis, the catcher who could barely get a hit all year, had the game winning double that brought in Howie Kendrick to win the game. It was incredible.

I believe in the power of the Rally Monkey.

Oh, and I almost forgot! Tomorrow's Confession Wednesday theme is going to be Sports Confessions!
