It's Twilight Week and We've Got Winners!
Thank you all so much for your uplifting comments and thoughts yesterday. They made me feel a lot better about everything. I was surprised by what Anonymous had to say, but I felt that it was important to respond to it and I appreciate all the support.
As of now, I am $300 away from the total I need. Unfortunately, I'm $300 and a plane ticket away, so I'm really not sure yet what's going to happen. I'll know by the end of the day and I'll keep you all posted. Either way, you will all be involved in the process.
Now then. As promised, today is the day that I am announcing the winner of the Up DVD giveaway! And, I'm also going to reveal the lies. There was quite a range of guesses. Some of them made me giggle because, well, why would anyone lie about that? And one of my lies was only guessed by one person who happens to be a real-life friend. Even my mom wasn't sure!
So, without further ado, here are the answers, with a little bit of extra info, just for fun. The winner will be announced at the end by my special Twilight Week Guest.
1. I am left-handed.
Totally true. Although I am slightly ambidextrous (which makes me a fairly gifted pool shark), I do all the important tasks (eating, brushing teeth) left handed.2. I am the oldest of four siblings and the middle of five.
True! Confused? Well, it's like this. I am the oldest of my dad's 4 kids. And I am in the exact middle of my mom and step-dad's combined 5 kids.3. I am a licensed ham radio operator.
True. Took a class and passed the test last April.4. I have been to the capitals of two countries and six states, but I have never been to Washington, DC.
True. I've been to Sacramento, Salt Lake City, St. Paul, Cheyenne, Denver, Boise, Paris and Ottawa. I have never been to Washington, DC. But I'm hoping to change that VERY soon.5. My favorite vegetable was broccoli until I developed an allergy to it.
Sorry, moms, but it IS possible for your kid to be allergic to broccoli! This is TRUE. I used to eat it all the time, but about 3 years ago it started to make me violently ill. Like, surrender all I've got to the porcelain throne. It's awful and it makes me sad because I really loved broccoli and I miss it.6. During my junior year of high school, I decided to join the military. Changing my mind is one of the few things in life I'd say I regret.
True. I was going to join the Air Force, but changed my mind because I didn't want to have to defer time while I went on a mission.7. I was once secretly engaged.
Even my mom wasn't sure about this one, but it's FALSE. I've never been engaged, in secret or in public. And I've only even gotten one marriage proposal, which I turned down. I'm pretty sure it was a joke anyway.8. I was so disappointed in the Twilight series, I gave my books away.
Anyone who's been reading my blog for awhile knows that this is absolutely TRUE. I pretty much hated the last book. The only one in the series I actually would say I liked was New Moon, which is part of why I'm going to see the movie this weekend.9. I have never been drunk.
True. Never ever.10. When I was 19, I almost got a tattoo. But then I thought about what it would look like when I am 80 and I didn't do it.
Very true. And I stick by that decision. Although sometimes I still kind of want one.11. Other than when I was born, I have never spent a night as a patient in a hospital.
I double-checked with my mom just to be sure, but this is true.12. I have never broken a bone.
True. Although it's a miracle that I haven't. I've spent enough time in emergency rooms.13.I speak French and English and really want to learn Arabic.
True.14.I studied American Sign Language for a year, but dropped Spanish after one semester because my teacher was obsessed with Peru.
It's true. She was from Peru originally, and very proud of her country. But there are other places that speak Spanish and other interesting things to say besides, "My teacher is from Peru."15. I like the smell of cattle ranches.
True. I grew up in Chino Hills, California, which used to be full of cattle ranches. It's a very nostalgic thing for me. I know. I'm weird.16. I've read Harry Potter 1-6 at least five times, but book 7 only once. Book 7 is my favorite.
True. By the time I read the last book, I had spent so many years with Harry that I needed a break from it. I will probably re-read the series again before the last movie comes out.17. I turned down front row tickets to a concert while I was AT the concert.
True! It was Bon Jovi in 2001. I went with a friend, but my co-worker basically coerced me into bringing her 15-year-old son along with us. I was sitting on the end seat. The band was already onstage. Jon Bon Jovi was singing his lungs out. This guy came up and offered me two front row tickets. I felt my heart die a little as I said, "There's three of us." He disappeared before I had time to think about what had just happened.18. My dad took me to my first Angels game when I was three, and I remember it.
True. I have a freakishly long memory.19. My mom taught me to read when I was three.
True. I was also freakishly smart as a kid.20. My favorite President is Ronald Reagan.
Definitely true.21. Out of all the places I've been, Strasbourg, France is my favorite--so far.
True. It's the one place I visited in France where I would actually like to live, too.22. I am terrified of spiders. Paralyzed with fear.
True.23. In college, I wrote a 22-page research paper in one night and got an 'A' on it.
True. It was for a 2-unit workshop about the Arab/Israeli conflict and my paper was about State-sponsored terrorism. That paper was the grade for the class.24. Star Wars is my all-time favorite movie.
True. I honestly have no idea how many times I've watched the very first one.25. My first concert was Garth Brooks in 1992.
True. And Martina McBride was the opening act.26. I've only been in two car accidents in my life, and they both happened within six months of each other in Canada.
True. In the first, I got in a fight with a snow bank. And the second? That pedestrian just walked right out in front of me.27. I once switched political parties to vote in a closed primary.
False. While I may have voted for a Democrat or two, I have been a registered Republican since a few days after I turned 18. But I still love my Dem friends!28. I still have my tonsils.
True. I do. I had about 15 bouts of tonsilitis in my childhood, but the doctor insisted that it was better for me to leave them in.29. One of my dreams is to voice a character in a Disney film.
True.30. I took the LSAT but decided not to apply for law school after I got my score.
True. My score was abysmal. I think my IQ is higher.31. John Grisham is my favorite author, but somehow I never got around to buying his last two books.

True. I find his story incredibly inspirational.34. I was declared 'Gifted' in 4th grade.
True.35. During my senior year of high school, my English teacher told me I was failing her class and I thought I wasn't going to graduate. She had forgotten to grade a couple of my papers.
True. Scared the crap out of me. I thought I was going to have to go to adult school in the summer.36. The first movie I ever saw alone at the theater was Castaway.
True. The idea of going to movies by myself always scared me a little. But I sucked it up and went, and now I LOVE going to movies alone.37. I love scary movies but I hate being scared.
True.38. My favorite ride at Disneyland changes every time I go.
True. In fact, this truth was originally going to be "My favorite ride at Disneyland is _____" but then I realized I couldn't decide.39. I've dyed my hair every "natural" color except black.
True. Although I'm a little confused as to how my mom forgot about the ten years when I was a blonde!40. I'm not really a dog person, but I want a Golden Retriever.
True. Why do they have to be so...licky?? And the fur. Ick! I really am not a dog person at all. They sort of drive me crazy. But I do want a Golden Retriever. They're sweet. I'll just teach it not to lick so much...Yeah...41. I'm kind of shy about it, but I'm actually a pretty good singer.
True. I'm trying to get out of my comfort zone a bit, but I tend to freeze up when someone asks me to sing for them. It's amazing that I was ever able to sing in competitions as a kid! (No, I never won.)42. I don't really watch reality shows, but I am practically obsessed with Deadliest Catch.
Love. True.43. I swore I'd never sign up for MySpace, Facebook or Twitter.
True. I did swear that. And each time, I signed up within a few weeks of my emphatic declarations.44. I recently found a library book I checked out in elementary school. It was "My Side of the Mountain" and I never finished reading it.
True. Sorry, Nikol. I never finished reading it. I think maybe I should!45. I remember the name of every teacher I had up to high school.
It's true. I get fuzzy on the high school teachers. There were a lot of them.46. I am one of the biggest procrastinators I know.
It's sad, but true. Is there a cure?47. Once, I was performing onstage and my pants fell down.
FALSE. This has never, EVER happened to me.48. I prefer the ocean to a lake or a river.
True. I love the way the ocean always changes and I love the scent of the breeze off the water. If I could afford to buy a beach house, I totally would.49. I've met some really famous people, but the ones that really made me starstruck were Ian Ziering and Patrick Wilson.
True. William Shatner was nice and all, but I got all tongue-tied over Steve Sanders.50. It was harder to come up with the 47 truths here than the 3 lies.
True. Don't believe me? You try it!
Ahem! And now, our Twilight Week Guest will announce the winner, who was the ONLY person to correctly guess TWO lies!
And because I'm such a giver, I've decided that there will be a SECOND winner, randomly selected from EVERYONE that entered. And what better person to announce Second Place than this guy:

YAY, ME! Oh my gosh! Now I can never say again, "I've never won anything in my life!" I couldn't believe you gave up your concert tickets...front row...Bon Jovi! You're going to heaven just for that! You got me on the secret engagement! As for changing political parties?! HAH! I knew it!! And, as for your pants falling down...I was so hoping that would have never happened to you! So, YAY ME! (I put so much thought into this. *grin*)
ReplyDeleteNow, as for our "UP" story...We were in Idaho Falls to see Dustin run his first marathon. Afterwards we thought we'd take Dustin, Emily and Isabelle to the movie! Oh, UP looked so good! Well, (true story here:) Dennis got sooooo sick in the middle of the show with H1N1 (swine flu)that we don't remember anything about the show, and Isabelle was too young to enjoy all the lights and sounds of it and was quite fussy, so poor Emily spent most of the movie in the lobby. SO WE NOW GET TO SEE UP--ALL OF IT!!! YAY! And we can watch it over and over! YAY
Thanks so much. This was fun. And I'm shocked that I got 2 right, let alone any of them!
Thanks again.
I'm so excited!
That was a rough anonymous comment. I just wrote my post on how I love anonymous commenters because I think a lot of people who just read blogs for entertainment don't go through getting a google friend-connect or whatever. Truthfully, there isn't much point of having a name with a little gray head anyway. If they feel moved to comment, it is anonymous. Just the way it is.
ReplyDeleteI can also see how the anonymity allows people to be rude and that isn't nice. I'm lucky in that I haven't had any rude comments. The post about my love of anonymous got more comments than any of my posts have ever had, so I guess it is a relevant topic.
And by the way, the Kellogg's plant in Atlanta flooded leaving us without our Eggo waffles. Bummer.
Congrats to the winners!!
ReplyDeleteArabic is hard to learn. It literally made my head hurt. *sigh* If you do try i wish you luck and i'd be more than happy to practice with you. :)
congrats to the winners and what a fun post to read! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love question & answer posts.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the winners...
ReplyDeleteI was sure you were only going to tell the lies. That you went through at talked about all of them...now that's impressive. Congrats to the winners.
ReplyDeleteAh man, I thought I'd win. I had to giggle at all the ones who voted for the broccoli one being false, as that was one I KNEW was true. :-)
ReplyDeleteHiya! Congrats to the two winners!! :) YAYAYA!
ReplyDeleteI went back to your previous post about Anonymous's comment. I don't know how I missed that post!
I am glad you are feeling better and that you're feeling support from the rest of blogland. I don't think that "Anonymous" was a regular reader, because if A had been, A would have understood the circumstances. I don't like Anon commentors myself. That one you got was not nice!! Instead of asking you an accusatory question, they could have asked you why you were doing this for clarification.
I think we have enough a$$es in the world. That's why to assume, you make an ass out of you and me, and that is just bleh.
Patrick Wilson is a hot babe - no wonder you were starstruck!
ReplyDeletep.s. I still have my tonsils too!
I am not a winner during Twilight week. In all senses of the word.
ReplyDeleteI must have missed a post. I'll go read now. Congrats to the winners.
ReplyDeleteI like how you announced the winners. You crack me up! :)
ReplyDeleteAh, dang, I totally wanted to win, but am glad the winner was at least in the fam.
ReplyDeleteI would've gotten at least another one right had I not second guessed myself on the engagement question, but I wasn't totally sure of all the details w/ your relationship with Troy (?) before you moved to Utah.
Ah, shucks.
Why did you like New Moon so much? It's my least favorite because there wasn't enough Edward.
ReplyDeleteFirst congrats! - and You have to love New Moon to Appreciate Eclipse!
