A New Moon Rises

Happy Friday, friends!

What a WEEK it's been.

I swear, it feels like this week has been a month long. Craziness has ensued. After a mad dash to try to reach the finish line on my fund raising efforts, I did fall a bit short. Not to worry, though. Next week I'll give you ALL the details on what this means. It's true, I'm disappointed, but I'm actually sort of excited about what's going to happen. And I think (hope) you'll be excited about it too.

But, this week is OVER. It's finito. Finished. Done. Gone. In the can. Bring on the weekend!

I know a few of you are nursing Edward-induced hangovers this morning. Some of you are on Jacob-highs.

I'm going to see New Moon tomorrow with my friend Sarah who LOVES somewhat enjoys Twilight. But I only agreed to go so that I could wear my new Twilight-inspired t-shirt. I was going to post of picture of myself wearing it, but I'm having a fat day feeling a little camera shy, so I thought I'd just post up a pic of what it looks like.

Awesome, right?

I fully plan on wearing it tomorrow, although a few people have expressed their concern that I might get my ass kicked harassed by crazy Edward obsessed mobs. It's all right. I'll be hiding behind Sarah prepared to bust out my mad kickboxing skills if necessary.

Truth be told, this is probably the only Twilight flick I'll pay to see at the theater, and I'm sort of looking forward to it. And not just because of the jaws that will assuredly be dropped in the wake of my bravery audacity.

My good bloggy buddy, hotpants™, asked the other day why I like New Moon so much, especially when it is so sadly Edward-lite.

I emailed her back, but it's Friday and the BAR exam results aren't going to be released until 6pm, so I can't brag about my brother yet. So, I thought, what the heck. I'll just talk about that here on the ol' blog.

Warning. Spoilers ahead. Although I'm guessing most of you already know the story and the rest of you probably don't care. But still. Be warned.

While Edward's departure made me leap for joy was obviously destined to be short lived, I was happy to see him go deeply impressed with Stephenie Meier's ability to capture Bella's depression and complete sense of loss. I really felt like New Moon had more heart and depth than all of the other books put together. She's heartbroken over Edward, confused about her attraction to Jacob, desperate for her parents to believe she's okay, while also desperate to be as reckless as possible. She's torn and confused and emotional and Meier actually had me feeling a lot of that right along with Bella. Seriously, if the second half of the series had been full of as much turmoil, angst and uncertainty, I probably would have enjoyed it.

(Despite the urge to take a red pen to all of those adverbs.)

(And the words "hissed" and "murmured" and "god-like.")

So, yes. New Moon was blissfully Edward-lite, and I knew Edward would soon be back to resume his controlling and possessive slightly unhealthy ways, but there was a lot of really good stuff in this book. It left me feeling hopeful for the rest of the series.

Until I read Eclipse, of course.

  4. I love the shirt. Even though I'm obsessed with the Twilight series, did I say obsessed? Yeah, I meant obsessed.

  5. Ha ha ha!! I admit, I read the books and thought they were okay. Then came the movie and I thought it was horrible! I'm hoping New Moon will be way better.. But I'm also over the whole vampire thing. I was/am a huge fan of Buffy. And no other vampire will ever take the place in my heart that Angel and spike have...

  9. I enjoyed most of the books. I really loved the New Moon movie. I watched Stephenie Meyer on Oprah and was really impressed with how down to earth and humble she is despite her fame. I also really enjoyed learning about the first time she even thought about Edward and Bella. It was a neat, neat story.

  10. Hey girl, sorry I have been absent lately---too many things on my plate at the moment---no blog reading for me!!

Like the tee, though----sorry to say that I couldn't get into the Twilight series---the writing? Blah. And the movies to me are laughable---so no New Moon for me---and can I REALLY make people p'od and tell you that I think the actors playing both those parts are butt ugly? Guess I like the non neanderthal look more....

    But enjoy!

  11. I love that shirt!!

Some friends and I went and saw New Moon yesterday and I thought it was good, but not as wonderful as I thought it would be. I don't know why. I walked out of the theater kinda feeling let down. Maybe it's because in my head I had the movie pictured differently!

I can't wait to hear what you think about it!

  15. I'm so sorry you missed your fundraising deadline. :((

While i don't think everyone goes to the lengths that Bella does after a break-up, i think women get how she felt totally dead inside. He walked away without any good reason. Bastard.

Hope the movie was good!! :D :D
