Oops!
On Saturday morning, I decided to go to the movies.
AMC Theaters only charge 6 bucks for any show that starts before noon on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays.
I hemmed and hawed and couldn't decide which movie to see. But when I got to the cineplex, I decided to see Sherlock Holmes again, because I really liked it the first time.
I got some popcorn and a drink--
(Yes, it was before noon, but it was, like, after eleven. So it's okay.)
--and went into the empty theater, choosing a seat somewhere in the middle.
I pulled out a book--
(I really need a nook!)
--and started reading while the theater slowly filled up.
And then the lights dimmed and the previews started.
I was glad to see different previews from the week before when I first saw Sherlock Holmes. I even saw one for a new Tom Cruise (!) movie that I had only vaguely heard of and knew nothing about.
But then, the movie started.
I didn't remember there being so many trees in London. And I didn't remember the opening sequence being so vivid with color. And I didn't remember Sam Worthington narrating.
And then it hit me.
HOW had I walked into the wrong theater??
I'd been so careful to check the ticket stub and to check the number and even to check the sign above the door that I just KNEW had said Sherlock Holmes.
But, sure enough, I was somehow watching the beginning of Avatar.
Which led to the dilemma.
Should I stay? Should I leave?
I want to see Avatar. I even have completely unfirm plans to see it with my brother sometime this week. But if I saw it before him, would he be upset?
On the other hand, the theater was now quite full and I didn't want to disturb the other patrons as I picked up my stuff and squeezed past them to get to the stairs.
And then, from somewhere behind me, a guy bounded down the stairs and out the door.
And then a couple down in front got up and left.
And then the dad right in front of me who brought his two daughters that were far too young for Sherlock Holmes OR Avatar, got up and moved to the aisle.
Slowly, half the theater around me emptied as everyone figured out that we were ALL somehow in the WRONG movie.
Once it dawned on me, I decided to just stay put. I had a feeling they would get this straightened out and I didn't want to risk losing my seriously awesome seat smack dab in the middle of the theater.
Sure enough, less than a minute later, everyone who'd left returned and the whispers filtered through the crowd as people assured one another that They were "working on it" and would start the right movie in just a minute.
They fixed the issue, started up the movie again and we got the pleasure of sitting through another twenty minutes of previews before finally getting to OUR feature presentation.
It's a good thing Jude Law is cute.

That's so funny! I do like Sherlock Holmes. Probably not enough to see it again though.
ReplyDeleteThat would take up precious time to watch The Notebook for the 97th time.
That's funny. I've never had that happen before. I have gone into the wrong movie though. The error was on my part. I stayed in the one I was in to avoid disrupting the rest of the patrons.
ReplyDeleteInteresting mix up. My family once went to see the wrong movie. The movie we wanted to see had Eddie Murphey in it. The movie we ended up watching - not so much. The whole movie my mom and dad are whispering back and forth, "is that Eddie Murphey?"
ReplyDeleteSad that I can't remember the name of either movie!
HA! That's so funny!
ReplyDeleteThat's the first time I heard of that happening. Glad you didn't give up your awesome seat!
ReplyDeleteI've walked into the wrong theater, but it was pretty apparant from the first preview that it was not the family movie we had thought we were seeing. It was a fast change. But my fault, not the theaters.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, when I went to see New Moon, there was a funny line in the middle of the picture, which as a little annoying, but easily overlooked. But because of that, they handed out free passes after the movie. I love it when that happens. I'd happily have all my movies with a little line over them if I get to watch them for free.
Here is Alton's Recipe. I ended up cooking mine for 8 minutes. Not sure if it's the high altitude or what. They are not very pretty, but boy do they taste good!

Hubby & I saw Sherlock Holmes on Christmas Day and loved it. Wouldn't you know that we both dozed off for a few minutes! How could we possibly have done that in such an action packed flick? I think we both overindulged in turkey prior to getting to the theater. I would definitely see this movie twice, tho. And hopefully not doze off the second time around!
ReplyDeleteOnce again, you make me laugh on so many levels!
ReplyDeleteHa! Now, see, you should have pitched a royal fit demanding that you get a free ticket to Avatar because you'd been so put out by starting one film and not getting to see the end. They have NO RIGHT to put you through such mental anguish ; )
ReplyDeleteFrom what I hear, Avatar is ten billion times better than Sherlock Holmes. I saw Sherlock Holmes...fell asleep. It wasn't my type of thing, though. But we went with my sis and brother-in-law who LOVE that stuff and they were very disappointed, but they were blown away by Avatar.
ReplyDeleteHa, some crazy things happen to you girl. That's so weird.
ReplyDeleteMacGyver and I saw both Sherlock Holmes and Avatar (in one night - it was awesome!) over the holidays. I really enjoyed them both, but def liked Sherlock Holmes the best.
I kind of want to see Sherlock Holmes, but I have heard that all the characters talk really fast, and you need to REALLY focus, which for me, is darn near impossible. Stupid ADD. I might have to wait for it to come out on video.
ReplyDeleteThat is funny. I really wanna see both of those movies too.
ReplyDeletehahaha!
ReplyDeleteHahahah that's hysterical!
ReplyDeleteI think you should have gotten to see BOTH movies because of the trouble. That is weird though. Can't say I've ever had that happen. I had one go on for several minutes with no sound.
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny! I've been hearing good things about the Sherlock Holmes movie. Maybe I'll have to drag the hubster out this weekend.
ReplyDeleteTotally a win-win situation!!
ReplyDeleteHow funny! :)
ReplyDeleteOur theater lately has taken to playing the audio of the pre-movie stuff with no picture. This has happened more than once to me, and I don't go very often.
ReplyDeleteI also don't get people bringing too-young children to certain movies. When we saw Sherlock Holmes, a woman had her INFANT with her. The baby didn't cry at all, but kept cooing all the way through. We were sitting as far away from them as possible and it still sounded like it was right next to us. And I think I have my Friday blog post. :-)
Or a Kindle. :)
ReplyDeleteIf you're gonna see Avatar see it in 3D! It's not that great of a story {cliche} but it's visually stunning in 3D!
Thanks for educating me about a nook. I had to look it up on the link LOL!
