Early Riser

I went to the gym this morning. For the first time in Idon'tcaretoadmithowlong.

Yesterday at church, I was chatting with the friend who actually convinced me to join the gym in the first place. We had talked about working out together but had never actually done it because of seriously conflicting schedules.

But neither of us has been for a week or two or twelve and so, we decided to go together. At 4am. Starting today.

I don't know what happened to me last night, but at 12:30am, I glared at the alarm clock, still wide awake.

So it was kind of a miracle that I managed to wake up at 3:55.

(Although, I'm not entirely convinced that I actually went to sleep.)

Knowing I'd be a tiny bit late, I sent a quick text message to let my friend know. Then, as I searched for my workout clothes got dressed, I crossed my fingers and decided that I would crawl right back in bed if she hadn't made it or if she didn't respond.

I was a little bit sad when I got a message back right away. She was already there and already working out.

That was all the butt-kicking I needed. I got dressed fast and hurried to my car.

You know it's been awhile when you walk through the doors and are shocked by some of the changes they've made to the front desk area. Especially when you leave 30-40 minutes later and realize they didn't change anything at all.

Oops.

So, yeah. I am back.

I know, it was only one day. But I'm back. I forgot how much I loved it. I forgot how much I love that feeling of pushing myself just a little farther than I thought I could go and trying new things. And I completely forgot how much I like the feeling of not being able to walk up the stairs at my house when I get home.

But now I feel like I'm going to pass out on my keyboard. That whole 3 hours of sleep thing is already catching up with me...

  2. 4 a.m. ?!?! You deserve some sort of medal for that! Once upon a time I got up at 5:45 and walked on my treadmill every morning. (Is it bad that what I actually typed is "dreadmill" and had to fix it? lol)

  3. You are clearly insane. I don't know how you managed to get up at that ungodly hour and go work out after getting only a few hours of sleep.

  4. I don't do that. I go in the afternoon, like a sensible person!

  5. I don't understand why you would do this to yourself.

  6. Yeah for insane motivation. I had a similar experience....but mine was at 8 am and since I was forced to be at the gym to teach a class, I decided it was time I push myself to the limit too....and stayed over 2 hours. I'm totally gonna crash soon, but I got more than 3 hours of sleep.

But admit it, you already feel a strange sort of energy don't you?!

  7. oh, and I was totally planning on blogging about exercise today...but as always, you beat me to it! Good to know we are still on the same wave length though. I'm picking another topic so I don't have to keep trying to be like you (publicly)

  9. There is NO WAY that I could drag myself out of bed for a 4 a.m. workout. NO WAY. So- mor epower to ya and keep it up!! I'm going to stick with my lunch hour routine- I'm plugging along and doing pretty well. Life just interferes from time to time.

    Go go go, Karen!!

  15. Good for you! Wow, it is all I can do to get on my Wii Fit at the end of the day. I'm blaming it on the winter and total lack of energy.

4 am. I'm just still impressed.

  17. I get up at 4:30 every other week for spin class when I am not banned from the gym due to pregnancy-related issues. It's the best time to work out. Good for you for getting back into it!

  18. I admire you for getting out of a warm bed that early. I got up at four AM once by choice in the past several years. It was to make an early flight to go to Disney World. Other than that, waking at 4 AM means someone is sick.

    Keep it up!

  22. I'm waiting to find out if our office is moving to a building with a gym. Once I find out, I'll either work out there or join somewhere close to home. Until then, that's my excuse.
