Let's Face it Friday! Week 9

It's important to take breaks now and then.

If we push ourselves too much then we'll eventually just burn out and give up on all the things we've worked so hard to achieve.

But, it's just as important to get right back to work as soon as playtime is over.

At the beginning of the year, when Jennee and I decided to launch Face It Fridays, we thought of the big picture in terms of Year 2010. We each set our own goals--

(Hers were ten very ambitious Big Goals, while mine were 65 Goals of Varying Degrees of Difficulty.)

(And most of those 65 are in the Little to No Difficulty category.)

--with the idea that it would take just about the entire year to complete them all, and allowing us to spend each week making a little bit of progress and reporting it.

Because, really, that nonjudgmental accountability is a big thing when it comes to trying to get stuff done.

So when I take a week or two off here and there, it's not an issue, because I've got an entire year's worth of effort and time and planning. It's basically March. Which means I have ten full months of working and pushing myself and scratching items off the list.

This is where a lot of people "fail." Those breaks become permanent, the goals are labeled unattainable, and we ultimately give up and write off the month/year/decade as yet another failed resolution.

BUT.

These are GOALS, not resolutions, which means you haven't failed. You've just been on a break.

I woke up last Monday morning knowing I needed to get in gear and do SOMETHING this week.

I went to the gym. Three times.

It's hard to get up at 4am and trick myself into driving two miles to make my muscles cry, but it's so worth it.

Or, at least it will be.

I hope.

(It will be worth it, right?)

Dragging myself to the gym Getting up in these early mornings will go a long way to helping me finish not only #7, but also #59 and #62. I think I might have found my first 5K, but I'm going to wait until later to talk about that. We'll see where I am in July.

I'm excited. I'm optimistic. And I'm tired.

It's been a long week, but a good week, too.

And I feel like I'm on track and getting somewhere, which feels amazing.

So how about you? Are you on a break? Or are you running full-speed ahead? Join our Blog Hope and let us know how it's going!

  5. I've been doing awesome in my exercising, but I'm also not waking up at 4am to do it. That'd be signing myself up to fail. So you go!!!

  7. Massive props to you for making it to the gym that much! Go you! Keep it up.

I suck at doing the early morning workout. I probably push myself too hard, and it generally makes me too exhausted for half the day. So I typically work out at lunch time or after work, but its MUCH easier to slack off that way, too.

But I'm going to start going on the unit 5 mile run at 5 am next week. MacGyver's coming, too. Tonight we're supposed to go to yoga.

We'll see if that all happens.

  8. I'm doing pretty well on my goals. I noticed that a lot of them revolve around my house and since we're hoping to move, I don't know if I'm going to be able to accomplish them. I'm kind of bummed, but maybe I can transfer them to the new house if we do end up moving! :)

  10. I think I'm on a break. lol And you are so right. I've noticed with the walking and yoga I try to do regularly, if I miss a day, it's MUCH easier to miss another and another and another. And when I've missed a week, it's VERY hard to make myself go again. I think I make it harder on myself by not just being consistent.

  11. Especially with exercise, I've been in a slump. I'm impressed that you were able to get up at 4 am more than once. And of course it will be worth it.
