Confession Wednesday: Award Confessions
I want you all to be sure to come back tomorrow for a VERY EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT.
I know. I'm mean to make you wait like that, but come on! It's Confession Wednesday! And, in honor of one of my favorite days of the year, this week's topic is Awards!
You can interpret that how you want. Maybe you want to confess that you love/hate getting blog awards.
Or perhaps you watch every award show known to man, only so that you can make fun of the clothes.
Whatever it is, we want to hear your confession.
Here's mine: I wrote my Academy Award acceptance speech when I was 19, and when I win an Oscar someday, I still fully intend to use it.
The first Oscar night I can remember watching was in March of 1990 when a boring movie about a little old lady and her chauffeur beat out what is still one of my favorite films: Dead Poets' Society.

It's funny because I've spent the last--
(OMG! Is it really TWENTY YEARS??)
--twenty years watching the awards shows, listening to the speculators, and learning how this whole process works. Now, when I see a movie, I can almost always tell immediately if it's going to get any nomination love based on the time of year it's released, the quality of the film, and what critics are saying. I've been in countless conversations with friends who, after the nominations are announced, will say, "I can't believe (insert random movie title here) wasn't nominated."
Not me. Over the last five years--
(and yes, I'm keeping track)
--I've averaged 85% on predicting the Best Picture nominees.
I'm not obsessed.
(I'm NOT.)
I'm just interested.
Because in high school, I really wanted to be an actress. But then I got to college and remembered just how much I loved writing and knew that it was such a better fit for me than throwing on costumes and gallons of makeup and pretending to be someone else.
(Don't get me wrong. I love actors. It's just not MY passion.)
So, anyway, I decided that I wanted to write novels, screenplays, a little bit of everything. And I decided that one day, I'm going to win an Oscar. And I wrote my speech. And it's a pretty good one.
Someday, you'll all get to hear it.
That's my prediction, and I'm right 85% of the time.

great minds think alike Karen! Mine is about acceptance speeches too :-)
ReplyDeleteman, I'm dying to know the announcement now! the suspense just might kill me.
I've never faithfully watched any type of award show....and I surprise everyone with that fact! Can't wait to hear your speech! Go get 'em tiger.
ReplyDeleteI don't really like awards shows, but I do enjoy looking at the pictures of the dresses afterwards!
ReplyDeleteI'm not much into the shows, but I love seeing all the dresses. And I don't understand the male "best dressed" situation. I mean, they just all look the same to me in their tuxes.
ReplyDeleteWhen I can remember when to turn on the tv I love to watch the celebrities on Oscar night. The gowns, the tuxedos, the bling bling. and I'm not sure who's hosting this year, but I love it when the host rags on the celebrities that deserve it.
ReplyDeleteRemind me when it comes time to tune in for your speech and I'll be there!
I love that you actually have a speech written up.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting my button!
I fully expect to hear your speech someday, and to have you wearing a ball gown and oversized earrings while making it.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch any award shows, ever, but I do get online the next day to see what everyone was wearing.
"Would you like to go to the Piggly Wiggly Miss Daisy?"
ReplyDeleteI loved that movie. I hope to hear that acceptance speech someday.
I still think someday I might get discovered. And I know if that happens I'll need to make an acceptance speech too. Because I secretly think I'm that good of an actress. How's that for a confession?
ReplyDeleteYou'll like this confession, or admission: The guy Ben from your favorite lil' Movie was the boyfriend of my way back then housemate...oh I should say WAS boyfriend b/4 he dumped my housemate for Gwyenth P...this was WAY back in the day...but thought you'd dig the gossip element of it;-)
ReplyDeleteI get to be your date to the Oscars. :)
