Picture This

Colleen tagged me in a meme!

I know I'm not the best about remembering to do memes, but she tagged me yesterday and I wasn't feeling particularly inspired with the topic I originally chose for today, so here we go.

For this photo meme, the task is to go to My Pictures, open the first folder and post the tenth photo, and then tell the story about it.

This is my brother, Marc, and my sister-in-law, Kristi.

It was a nice evening last May. The three of us and some other friends had done Neil Patrick Harris's Accomplice Hollywood and finished the evening at a restaurant called ¡Lotería!.

¡Lotería! was not our first choice.

Kristi made reservations at another place called L Scorpion.

I was disappointed because I really wanted Italian, but pretty much everyone else wanted Mexican food.

We finished our Accomplice Hollywood adventure and then walked over to L Scorpion. The windows were black as night and it looked almost as if there wasn't a single light on inside. And then, when we approached the door, the entry was covered in spider webs and dirt and I'm fairly certain the place had been closed for awhile.

Kristi yanked her Blackberry out of her purse and pulled up the email confirmation, showing us that she had, in fact, made reservations for this restaurant on this night.

Apparently, when the restaurant closed, they forgot to turn off internet reservations. Oops!

Saturday night.

7:30pm.

Hollywood.

No reservations.

Fearing we were destined to dine at McDonald's, we checked out several places along the block, but each was as crowded and busy as the one before it. So we talked about leaving Hollywood and finding somewhere else. But it's California and EVERYWHERE in the ENTIRE STATE was practically going to be packed.

Then we went to ¡Lotería!  Kristi's friend, Lorena, had a friend that worked there, so she dashed in to check on wait times. The hostess said an hour or so, but after Lorena found her friend at the bar, we were seated within twenty minutes.

Which brings us back to my photo.

¡Lotería! is essentially a Mexican restaurant, but the menu wasn't just your standard tacos and burritos and enchiladas. Everything had some kind of fancy twist to it. An interesting sauce, an unusual side dish, whatever. I can't really remember and I'm too lazy tired to look up the menu right now, but it was an interesting dining experience.

My brother ordered the mini tacos.

It was a sampler plate with four or five different types of tacos.

He took a look at the plate and I think he was a little disappointed. I remember him saying something about it not being much food and I agreed and passed him more chips and salsa.

He was getting full by the time he reached the 7th taco, stuffed by the 9th and had to force himself to eat the 10th. And he loved every one of them.

It was a fun evening, full of laughs and frustrations and hilarity. I haven't been back to ¡Lotería! since then, and don't know that I plan to anytime soon, but it was quite the experience.

Okay, now I'm supposed to tag 4 people...and I apologize for not posting the links, but I'm already a bit late and have to hurry and get ready for work:

  2. That thing with the on-line reservations happened to me and my husband a couple of years ago. We ended up at sports bar which was fine. We probably had more fun anyway.

  8. Those look SOOO good! I've had dishes like that too...where I look at the plate initially and think it's not a whole lot of food but then I end up stuffed half-way through!

Looks like you all had a fun night!

  9. I like this meme, and if its okay I'd like to use it on my blog even though I was not tagged. I have been so uninspired lately as to what to write and have been looking for some ideas when I came across this post.

  10. I'm notorious about being a bad person about not passing on memes to anyone, mostly because of lack of time to set up the links. But I did do this on my blog...
