Confession Wednesday: Tax Day
Tax Day is tomorrow.
I thought it was a good time for some confessions.
Except that I realized that taxes are really boring. Who cares? I mean, it's not like anyone is going to be confessing to tax evasion or anything. Unless, of course, the statute of limitations has already expired.
So, instead, a question. What is the biggest/best thing you've bought with your tax refund?
A couple of years ago, I bought a bed.
I know. Way to splurge, eh?
Except that it was a Big Deal.
Because I was sleeping on a futon. A futon I was grateful for, of course. But still a futon. That sagged in the middle.
I needed a bed in the worst way.
It was the first and only year of my life that my taxes were filed before Groundhog's Day and my refund was in the bank in the beginning of February.
To this day, my bed is still my favorite possession. It's pretty much the most comfortable bed ever.
What about you? What fun and exciting splurges have you made with those big, annual refunds?

This year my husband bought a crazy computer set up for his iRacing habit. 3 giant monitors, it looks like he's some kind of geek hacker guy. I guess the geek part is still applicable. This was supposed to be from our tax return $.
ReplyDeleteWe did that homebuyer credit this year and had to MAIL our return. That was a big hold up for our money and I'd already authorized the buying of the computer because this check was coming in a couple of weeks. We ended up getting a letter that the husband forgot to put his W-2 in the mail. Had to mail it in then and wait another 6 to 8 weeks!!! We're still waiting!
If this check ever gets here we're planning to also pave our driveway with it. If it ever gets here!
If we get a refund we usually save it. However, a few years ago we bought a couch and chair. We had gone fourteen years without a couch in our living room; if we had company we'd pull out the kitchen chairs or all just sit in the kitchen. I was so thrilled to get them!
ReplyDeleteIf I have, it must not have been too fun or exciting since I can't think of anything! This year it all went to my student loan so I can finally be free of that annoying debt!
ReplyDeleteI can remember the exciting day I bought a bed after sleeping on a saggy sofa bed for a year and a half. That bed was like heaven!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I think the best thing that I got was a new lap top! That might have been one of the years when everyone got the refunds, because lately we haven't been getting any money back!
ReplyDeleteMy tax refund always goes into savings. I know... how boring. Then again, my refund is hardly worth mentioning!
ReplyDeleteWe had planned to buy a bed one year but never did it. We did use tax money 2 years ago for a family vacation. This year, tax money is paying off medical bills and some other loose ends that will leave us more secure over the course of the year.
ReplyDeleteHow sad is it that I know we bought something major last year and I can't remember?? I'll ask B tonight. :)
ReplyDeleteI am boring--it goes into the bank. Maybe I should change that this year....
ReplyDeleteA car. Well, a downpayment for a car. Boo.
ReplyDeleteWe've never received a refund. We always have to pay. But, if we did get one, I'd buy a bed too. We need a new one in a bad way.
ReplyDeleteMy emergency fund is getting a nice bounce with this refund. Some confession. Can I confess to wanting to spend it on pretty dresses?
ReplyDeleteHow sad is it that I don't even really remember what I spent my last few tax refunds on? This year's went to the move. A few years ago the gov took mine due to a typographical error (that caused me huge amounts of painful red-tape battling) and they still haven't returned it . . . That's the only one I have any memory of.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of bed do you have? MacGyver is demanding that we get a new bed ASAP.
My motorcycle was by far the best thing I ever bought with my tax refund! I love it and it makes me so happy!
ReplyDeleteWe usually just pay off debt with ours. We always say we'll got on a vacation, but we never do.
ReplyDeleteI usually use mine for something to "improve" my house. I've partially finished a basement, built a deck (okay, I didn't personally do these things, but I did HELP), and this year we had a gas log installed in our fireplace.
ReplyDeleteWell, the last few years we've saved our refunds so we could save up a nice little nest egg. But there was one year awhile ago (before we were married and had kids) that we pooled our tax money together and took an amazing vacation to Cancun!!!!!
