I Need More Weekends Like This
Especially when you actually do something with them.
And I set out to accomplish something during the last four days.
I didn't exactly finish everything on the list, but it was still productive and a nice little break before the busy homestretch to final exams and graduation.
Here are some of the highlights:
♥ I got to work on organizing and cleaning out my bedroom. One episode of Hoarders and I'm a changed woman. You wouldn't believe how much stuff I've set aside to donate or just tossed straight into the garbage.
♥ It was a little weird to go the movies on Friday and ask for one ticket for Date Night. But I did and I laughed through most of it. It's the kind of stupid-funny that requires just the right mood, and I was definitely in the right mood for it.
♥ Why do the tallest people insist on standing in front of short people? Watching the Disneyland fireworks on Friday night, a guy that was easily over 6'8 towered over everyone else and insisted on blocking our view. And if that wasn't enough? He put his daughter on his shoulders so that they were the combined height of a small mountain.
♥ There was a funeral on Saturday morning. I never had the pleasure of meeting the woman whose life we celebrated, but I attended as part of my church responsibilities. And as I sat and listened to some of her relatives and friends share memories of the incredible woman she was, I couldn't help feeling like I had really missed out on knowing someone really special. There are a lot of people I need to get to know better.
♥ The BBC version of Pride & Prejudice is one of the best movies ever. The party was awesome. Tons of food (although, oddly enough, hardly any chocolate), tons of Colin Firth. It was a great evening of bonding. And, Rachel, I'm sorry I freaked you out about your trip to Europe by mentioning the news about all the airports being closed. I'm sure they'll be opened up again by the time you guys go!
Overall, it was a pretty great weekend. I'd say we need three-day work weeks more often, but then I think I'd start taking the weekends for granted. I'm thinking I need to just be grateful for them when I get them.
How was your weekend?

sounds like a great weekend!!! I can't watch Hoarders...those people drive me insane, probably because I have to fight some of my own little insane urges to hoard. ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh good, I'm glad to hear that Date Night is funny!
I recently went to a funeral where I didn't know the deceased very well (actually, it was a memorial service) but he had been a part of our church family for a while so I knew some church people there. I was there because our praise team had been asked to sing his favorite worship song. Listening to his mom, his 2 closest friends, his ex-partner (who was the reason I knew him at all)... it felt so intimate and I felt so honored to have been a part of it.
ReplyDeleteOur weekend... I did the Race for the Cure Sat morning, Jeff took Teagan to buy new sneakers for soccer which starts this coming weekend, I got all crazy and gardened (see my post today), and we had a big hurt bird on our deck incident (that story is posted on my facebook fan page- link to that is on my blog or just search Eternal Lizdom on FB- it was a crazy incident that involved my husband, without thought, smashing part of the deck he built!).
Good! I stayed up entirely too late.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love to remember Colin Firth in the good times.
Does sound like a great weekend. I like weekends where I get not only time with the people I love, but time alone, and productive time. Can't say that I got much of that last one this past weekend, but I'm ready to have a productive week!
ReplyDeleteFriday night...one ticket for Date Night.... yep, that was me too! Let's just call a spade a spade and say we went together just in different theaters and time zones! Sounds like a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great weekend. I agree, there should be more long weekends.
ReplyDeleteI saw Date Night too, and laughed out loud many times. Who did I see it with? Not my husband, but my mother. Sad, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I missed the P&P party. That picture of him all wet after jumping in the lake doesn't really capture the moment appropriately.
ReplyDeleteI need to see Date Night. My husband saw a review for it that said it was bad, and even though I usually don't pay attention to professional reviews, I've been nervous about the movie ever since.
That weekend sounds excellent!
ReplyDeleteI slept all weekend and it was perfect :)
ReplyDeleteI have to say I am not a P&P fan, but I'm glad you had a great weekend. I could use a nice 4 day weekend about now!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous weekend! Whenever I want to see a movie that my hubby isn't interested in seeing, I just skip it. One of these days, I am going to go alone. Thanks for inspiring me!
ReplyDeleteGood for you on that solo movie. I think that would be great to sit quietly in the dark and laugh once in a while. You definitley made the best of your days off. I wish I could say the same for some of my long weekends.
ReplyDeleteNot to take sides or anything, but how often can a 6'8" guy stand in front of someone taller? Although the kid on his shoulders thing is lame. Then again, I bet that kid thought it was pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteP/P rules.
I found your blog from the Lady Bloggers Tea Party and I had to come over because of your name. Great name by the way.
ReplyDeleteI love your post. Glad you were productive. I have been to funerals before of people I haven't really known and have always felt the same way.
I will follow you and hope that you will follow me. I am taking your button.
I have 3 different blogs. You can find them by clicking on my name and getting them off of my profile. Hope to "see" you soon.
What a great weekend. I think there was a weekend here, but I'm not sure. I worked every day. Blah! Getting Tuesday off just isn't the same.
ReplyDeleteI need a Pride and Prejudice party. It really is hard to have too much Colin Firth. Glad to hear you liked Date Night. It has Carell and Fey in it...I have to see it.
I could have definitely used an extra day or two this weekend, but I did try to make good use of the time I had, and I entirely agree with you about the BBC Pride and Prejudice. I get a little bit crazy when I find out someone hasn't seen it.
ReplyDeletePS Who did your blog design? I really like it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice weekend... besides the funeral. But it was still nice of you to go. I LOVE Disneyland fireworks!!! Ryan's favorite part is when Walt says his "To all who come to this happy place, Welcome!" I wish we lived closer so we could enjoy the park as much as you get to.
ReplyDeleteOh and as for Pride and Prejudice.... LOVE IT! No greater sappy love story:)
I mulched this weekend. As you know I'm strangely satisfied by that type of thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm planning on going to see Date Night all by myself tonight! I'm dying to see this movie and I'm afraid if I wait to go with my husband, it will never have. Carpe Diem!
ReplyDeleteaww, i have yet to see Date Night. i hear it's pretty funny. glad to hear your weekend was great :)
ReplyDeleteshuttling in from SITS :)
I love P&P.
ReplyDeleteAwesome weekend! We need to have a P&P night when Dustin is nowhere to be found. :)
