Karen's Blog of the Week: Once Upon a Dream!
(Yes, I realize that includes the 2 men that happen to reading. Happy Mother's Day to you as well!)
I thought a lot about what to do about this special day.
Should I write about my mom? I could. But I did do that last year. I mean, I know you can never honor your mom too often on your blog, but I just wasn't feeling it so much this year.
(Sorry, Mom!)
(Or, I would be sorry if you ever read my blog!)
(But I still love you!)
Anyway, I've been really feeling like I needed to dedicate this very special day to a very special blog. Once Upon a Dream.
The author's blog moniker is Dreamer, but when I met her in the middle of a crowded train station in downtown Montreal, she was an Angel.
Quite literally.
As in, Sister Angel, my third mission companion.
We worked together for three months in the town of Mascouche, Québec, a small community just north of Montreal. It was the hardest three months of my mission, and I doubt I would have survived it if she hadn't been there to keep me sane.
She was also the one who convinced me to move to Utah and attend Weber State. The plan was for us to be roommates and go to school together.
But Someone had other plans. She went and got married instead, just two months before I left my home and my family and moved to a place where she was basically the only person I knew. She felt bad about it, though, and let me stay at her house until I found a place to live. Three days later.
Even though I was scared to go to Utah--
(There are just so many MORMONS there!)
--I knew within those first few days that I was where I needed to be. Why else would everything have worked out so perfectly?
And the thing is, I know I have Sara to thank for that. Because I doubt I would have gone if not for her not-so-subtle encouragement.
I didn't see much of her during my six years in Utah. She was busy being married and starting a family, and I was busy going to school and trying to find someone to date. In fact, other than a random run-in at Arby's, I haven't actually seen her since she was pregnant with her oldest daughter. It's hard to believe that was EIGHT YEARS AGO.
Today, she's the mother of four: one girl and three boys. Her kids are adorable and creative and funny. And they all seem to like each other.
And she is exactly the kind of mom I always wanted to be. She homeschools, bakes her own bread (including pita!), grows her own garden, and STILL has time for blogging.
So go on over and pay her a visit. I love her and I'm sure you will, too!

From your blog, I can see that you are a very content man. I hope you can make friends with me generously. I think a good pair of shoes as my faithful friend, so I always find the most suitable and favorite shoes, if you agree with my view, you can look at my site.

ReplyDeleteKaren, what did you do?!? You are awesome. Thanks for the mother's day shout out, it made my morning! Well, it made my morning after the thrill of french toast in bed with fun cards from my kids and not getting out of bed til almost 9am was over. You're the greatest!

ReplyDeleteI'll have to stop by. She sounds amazing. She does all that...while I'm throwing graham crackers and fruit snacks at my kids to make them be quiet so I can blog.
