Face it Friday! Week 36

Face it Friday Button
I crossed out a couple of my goals this week.

When it came down to it, there were just a few things that are not going to be possible this year.

The Grand Canyon? Not gonna happen.

Ten Angel games? Well, let's just say that I've had more pressing financial necessities and Angels games haven't been  my priority. It's not like the team's been showing up to play anyway.

And as for querying agents...I have to finish the darned book first and there's no way I'll have it ready enough for querying before the end of December. Unless, of course, I want to experience the thrill of universal rejection.

So I crossed a few things off the list. And you know what? It actually felt pretty good.

Because I'm not quitting. This is completely different from quitting. And I'm still determined to finish as much as I can. There are still PLENTY of goals left on my list. I've already succeeded by making it this far. And now, with just 16 weeks to go,  and my list newly (though slightly) thinned, I feel freshly motivated to keep going and to finish strong.

Sixteen weeks, folks. We can do this.

How are YOUR goals going? Link up and tell us all about it!

And don't forget to check up on Jennee's progress while you're at it!

  1. I know how you feel about your team not showing up to play.

I went to see my team play 5 times this year (I say went because the finals just started, so the losers I support are playing no further part in this season).. anyway, of the 5 games I went to, they showed up to maybe.. one and a half games.

    Oh well, there's always 2015.

  2. I don't think you're giving up on your goals - just extending the deadline.

  3. You are definitely tenacious!

  4. I've been putting off that novel I was supposed to have written four years ago. So I think that kind of puts your deadline in perspective. :-)

  5. Sounds to me like you're making pretty good progress. And if you are anything like me there are always new goals popping their heads in the door.
For me it's slowly but surely-- probably more slow than sure.

  6. There's something very freeing about just deciding something isn't gonna happen (yet) and crossing it off your list. Good for you!

  7. Hi Karen,

Thanks for visiting me! I think it's fab that you canceled goals. Too many are counterproductive. I once read that the man who is fresh out of school and has so many roads before him that he is sure he would succeed in is much unhappier than the one who is on one path and is not interested in anything else. He can throw his whole soul into it. Sounds like yours is writing. ;-)

  8. Progress is progress and there's no shame in an extended deadline!

  9. That's the thing about goals. Sometimes what you thought was super important turns out not to be - and vice versa.

  10. Like a few have said, setting goals and not completing them is not a bad thing. Life happens. We move with the tide and sometimes we don't complete what we start. Does it make us failures? Hell know. We reevaluate and move on.

Sorry I haven't been around much lately. I addressed that in my most recent blog today. Glad you are doing good. Keep on keeping on!

  11. Hi, Karen -- so happy that you visited me because I discovered your blog. I do believe in goals (as opposed to resolutions), but also believe in revision and letting go! One of mine is to finish my novel, so we are kindred spirits there. You're ahead of me, so you can look back and say, "Come on, come on -- the finish line is in sight!" Annie

  12. It's so much smarter to make your goals realistic and maybe extend a deadline or two, than to set your goals so high that you end up completely frustrated and probably don't get the do-able stuff done, because you just worry about the things you won't be able to get done. That last method is how I do it. Very annoying, because I don't seem to learn from experience.
But hey, you might inspire me! :)
    (And thanks for stopping by!)
