Face it! Friday: Week 47

Face it Friday Button
I haven't finished anything this week. I've started, like, 3 new books. Can I say I started to read 30 books this year and count it?

Anyway, there are a few things in the works and I'm going to really push over these next five weeks to get as many items crossed off the list as I can.

In the meantime, I've already started looking at 2011 and I'm super excited about that. But Jennee and I are going to get more into that next week as we get into the very last month of 2010.

I'm not sure how Jennee did this week because she hasn't posted yet, but you can check her out and give her some encouragement. She's almost done, you know.

And since I don't have anything really to report this week, I'm going to take this brief moment to talk about something completely off-topic.

Captchas.

I know. I've ranted about them before. But this is a real, actual, valid reason to avoid them beyond the philosophical argument of how much they help stop spam and other annoyances.

What's wrong with this picture?

If you answered, "Well, gee, there's no box to ENTER THE CAPTCHA," you would be correct.

So, if you are a blogger that has enabled word verification and your comments are embedded below your post and you've noticed that you haven't been getting any comments lately, you might want to check and see if this is why. I've seen this happen on a couple of different blogs when they use free designer templates.

Usually I've emailed the blogger to let them know about this issue. But then there are more than a few who still don't attach an email address to their blog.

I love to leave comments. I love to let people know I stopped by. I can't when this happens.

Do you have something to share for Face it! Friday? Please link up below and tell us about a goal you accomplished or didn't or are planning to try. We want to cheer you on!

  1. I don't know why bloggers use the captcha because there are other (better) options. One is approving all comments, the blogger can just delete spam comments. Or, don't allow anonymous comments. Some anonymous comments are negative anyway, so what's to miss? I don't allow anonymous comments and no spam problem at my place!

  2. Ugh. I think we're just going to have to deal with those silly little words. People aren't getting the message.

I'm facing that I did NOTHING this week but blow my nose and roll around with a fever.

Ugh. I think I said that already!

  3. I leave my blog wide open to comments because, being pretty new, even a spam comment is something! :)

I started a new writing project this week. Starting a project was a goal on it's own, but now I'm faced with the much harder goal of finishing it. I'm trying to keep it small so hopefully it will be somewhat easy to finish! The results will be on my blog as each part is done.

  5. The embedded comment box just has problems in general it seems.

  6. I just changed my commenting format for this reason, I hate finding out after the fact that I missed out on comments. First time visiting, great blog!

  7. I despise Captchas. There are still a few blogs I read that use them, and I still comment, but I dislike the little box every time.

  8. That's why I don't use word verification. Okay, one of the many reasons. Besides, the spam filter catches almost everything.

  9. I hate captchas and I hate people who don't have an email address linked to their blog.

  10. Oh, and I'm also hoping to make a push with the book reading before the end of the year. I have seriously slacked off since the fall shows started up.

  12. I thought I was the only one who couldn't stand those things..uggh!

As far a projects...I started reading Stephen King's Under the Dome probably about 3 weeks ago. The funny thing is I gave myself a 3 week timeframe to be done. Guess how many pages it has? 1074! Guess what page I'm on? 133! Three weeks! Yeah that's funny!

Dropped by through the LBS tea party and I'm glad I did! I love your blog.

  13. Those blogger captchas annoy the hell out of me, and it's a shame because it means that many blogs don't get comments because of this glitch :(

  14. I used to be totally opposed to Captchas until the Chinese spam got all crazy for a while there. But it's died down. Maybe I'll take mine off.

  15. I've seen that happen with the Captchas before too! So annoying!

  16. I've seen that...I've had success at pressing "Tab" until I get to the Submit button. It seems the submit is stuck below the point the window shows and there's no scroll bar. Try it next time.

I hate captchas anyway! I avoid spam by setting my blog to require approval on comments more than 1 day old. I keep a watch on today's blog usually so if someone posts spam, I usually catch it, but usually spammers go after blogs that are more than a day old anyway.

  17. Comments are king, and I cannot stand the captcha code! Anyways, glad you are looking forward to the next year already. It is always interesting to think back on the year and decide how the new one will be different. I have hope that it will keep getting better!
