PROJECT 52: Week 1!
I love January. I am not a resolution person. But I am a goal person. I always have been. I get so excited to make lists of the things I want to do. Mostly because I am a geek that loves crossing stuff off.
(It's even possible that I have added things to lists after I've done them, just so I can cross them off.)
(Maybe.)
Anyway, Jennee Thompson and I had so much fun last year when we started doing Face it Friday. I never would have finished most of the things I did if I hadn't made myself accountable to all of you by updating my progress every week and putting my goals out there for all the world to see.
And so, we're doing it again.
Of course, as we mentioned in recent weeks, our posts will now be on Mondays. A way to get us motivated to get going for the week. And, of course, Jennee and I each made a list of 52 things to do in these 52 weeks. You don't have to do 52 things. You can do as many or as few as you want. It's entirely up to you. The point is just to do something. To wake up next January 1st knowing that you finished something you set out to do. That's what it's all about.
And, this year, there will be some cool prizes along the way.
In creating my list, I thought about what I really want out of life. Where I really want to be. Who I really want to be. And I thought about some things I need to do in order to get there. And then I threw in some fun and random. Because I really do thrive in the fun and random.
This year is going to be somewhat of a transition for me. I have no idea what's coming. But I can feel change on the horizon. I'm sick of my long commute. I want to do something about that. I'm turning 34 and I really want to live alone again. My roommates are great people. But I'm 34. I don't want roommates anymore. So I need to do something to make that happen. And I need to do more to serve others.
I also want to try new things. Have some crazy experiences and excellent adventures.
I want to read more and get more active in the community. Get more active in general. I want to be healthy and cultured and well-traveled.
My list is specific. As often as possible, it is detailed. It is me.
And so, I present to you, my 52 Goals for 2011:
1. Go apple picking.
2. Go to 10 Angel games.
3. Go to 1 Angel game outside of California.

Karen,
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. I made my own list and put it on my blog (http://robinsonreality6.blogspot.com/2011/01/project-52.html)
Check it out and I will be looking forward to your updates hopefully you will keep up with mine as well.
Rebecca
This is a COOL idea! Too bad I'm Queen of the Procrastinators.
ReplyDeleteI can very rarely get a list of 10 things done in a year, never mind one a week! The best of luck to you, Karen :D
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the project 52 invite. I'd love to join. Im hoping to get on board and post my 52 things tomorrow. Wonderful!!!
ReplyDeleteBuy black boots? lol. Do you only buy brown boots? You are so funny, girl. I cannot think about 52 things right now (story of my life it seems). I am just trying to pass these exams this week but I definitely have some things I would like to accomplish - read more blogs, for instance. LOL. I like your list and please share a pic of those black boots when you buy them.
ReplyDelete20,30 and 36 are three of my goals so Ola Spanish learning, recipe sharing buddy!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea and I'm going to check in regularly to see how you get on.
Good luck!
Carol
You should try zumba as soon as possible because it is the best way to get fit. I think I'll go shake my bon bon now.
ReplyDeleteWhat if I have 2 main goals and will be striving towards those goals each week?
ReplyDeleteI'd love to participate but not sure I can figure out a list of 52 things!
I'm doing it <3
ReplyDeleteIf you want to cross #19 off your list, you can do a guest blog entry for my blog...since (ducking and running for cover) I "resolve" (and I hate that word) to do better at keeping up my blog. I can't believe I went 4 months without updating once! Come on...you know you want to!
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I'm linking up later today. I'm going to put the button in my sidebar along with the list.
ReplyDeleteI think I would have the most difficult time with not eating fast food for 10 days. Although, it would be an excellent goal for me.
ReplyDeleteI love so much of this list, especially the ghost hunt and fancy dinner party.
ReplyDeleteThis is ambitious, and I look forward to seeing how things go. Good luck!
So many comments - LOVE IT. Going to have to think about goals and then join in the fun.
ReplyDeleteBoots - if you are a size 7 talk to me.
Business Cards - VistaPrint. I just ordered 500 for under $10.
Crock Pot - Chicken Taco's...will send recipe if you want.
Soda - been there. You've got to find an alternative to satisfy your buds. Good Luck!
Mine are up now! (even though Blogger wasn't supposed to post them until later)
ReplyDeleteI am definitely joining in, but I'll post tomorrow or Wednesday. I had to get a review posted today :-)
ReplyDeleteLove your 52 idea. So cool!!
ReplyDeleteand I love a lot of what's on your list. may have to steal a few of those ideas. they're great;-)
I prob have ~20-25 goals for me this year. one or two in each of the roles in my life: mom, wife, athlete, friend, finance, health, personal growth, ME!, community and home.
Travel somewhere by boat? Does a cruise count? Because they are so much fun!
ReplyDeleteAlso, crock pot recipes are my favorite. Nikol gave me an awesome one for pot roast. Two birds with one stone! I can email some if you like....
Did you ever make it to San Diego this weekend? If so, I'm bummed that we didn't get together.
Some of those are really tough, like going 30 days without soda!
ReplyDeleteI'm a list geek too! I saw this over at Hotpants place and am going to join in. Hopefully I'll get my list up sometime this week! I'll be back to link up when I do post it.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about doing this with you this year. Can I make "write list of 52 goals" for my number one goal?
ReplyDeleteI've been working on my own list of 52 things I want to do this year. I decided to list 10 at a time in case what I want to do now changes in a month or two.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool idea! If you need a suggestion for a classic to read - I'd say Anne of Green Gables if you haven't already read it - my favourite book as a kid! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds awesome! I gotta warn you though, the soda thing is rough. I gave them up for Lent last year, and by day two I was ready to maul a small child for a diet Dr. Pepper! Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like another exciting year! Good luck with your goals!
ReplyDeleteI want to get Harry Potter and the Narnia books to read to Julia. That ought to keep us busy for a while!
I can't believe I didn't comment on this when I read it!! I talked about it on The Blog Frog! LOL!! I think you've go some great goals!! I'm glad you leave the Linky open longer because I TOTALLY plan on playing along with this for 2011, but it will probably stay on Friday... I hope you're good with that. Love the Project! Lists are GOOD for me! I NEED them!! ((HUGS))
ReplyDelete52 goals is awesome. Just as fun as 65, but not as many things to do. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI love lists, too. And I definitely have added something I already did, just so I could cross it off. ;)
ReplyDeleteI really admire you for setting down such concrete goals and working so diligently toward them. I'm not sure I could even think of 52 things I want to accomplish. I'm not sure what that says about me. I'm going to sit with it and think and see if I can figure it out. And who knows, maybe I'll join you...
I'm here via Handbags and Handguns. I am currently working on my Project 52 and I couldn't be more excited! GREAT IDEA!
ReplyDeleteKaren-actually, I am signing up for a class this semester.
ReplyDelete;-)
~Naila Moon
I told you I'd come back! I'm all linked up!
ReplyDeleteKaren,
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of 52 goals! Have fun with your list! :)
I've got a list of 15 goals but each goal has it's own sub-goals to help me reach the main goal. I might come close to 52 if I count them all!
Stacy
I think this is a fantastic idea! I don't do resolutions either but I feel this is more manageable. I'm going to work on my list and link up later.
