Trending Topics: The Cast of The Hunger Games!
Welcome to Trending Topic Thursdays! It's something that happens over at Cheap Therapy (aka my blog) and the way it works is that "you" guest post on my page and I guest post on your page....the topic is always open for discussion.
Today's topic that Karen and I swapped is The Hunger Games Cast.
Oh yes. We're going there.
If you haven't had the chance to read these books by Suzanne Collins....it is time to come up from under that rock. Do me a favor and go to the store and pick up The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay. This way you will know the amazing story, get lost in the hype and expectations of waiting for the Hunger Games movie to come out.
The most recent member to join the crew as President Snow is Donald Sutherland. I had someone else in mind...Chris Cooper.
Although I wasn't disappointed once I heard that Donald Sutherland got the part. He has that creepy good guy image and sweet bad guy thing.
All in all, I agree with most of the cast. Even though I've always seen Haymitch played by Robert Downey, Jr., instead it goes to Woody Harrelson.
Again, I'm not mad because the more I think about it, he is going to be perfect for the part.
And then it comes to Peeta.
I suppose the reason that I don't care for Josh Hutcherson is because I've always seen myself taking the role of Katniss and well, let's be honest, Josh looks a little too young for me. I have a good friend that is Peeta to a T. It's insane.
So, this is my pick for an older, more mature...Peeta...to play along side me...if you know what I mean.
(Gabriel Macht)
What are your thoughts with the cast? Do you agree with the cast? Did you have someone in mind that didn't make it? Will the movie be better than the book? You know how it goes, tell me what you think...and be sure to check out what Karen has to say about the cast.

I'm pretty much on board with everyone except for the dude playing Peeta. I wanted Peeta to be hot. That guy just doesn't do it for me.
ReplyDeleteYes, but what about Lenny Kravitz being cast as Cinna? ALL WRONG, I say! ALL WRONG!!!
ReplyDeleteChris Cooper would have been a great President Snow! I hadn't thought of him, but...nice call.
I have mixed feelings about Josh Hutcherson. I think he would probably be better as Gale. Guess we'll see. I also have mixed feelings about Woody Harrelson. I guess he can play a washed up hasbeen pretty well. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I always pictured Haymitch as being played by Hugh Jackman.
It seems there is a lot of uncertainty about Peeta. Poor guy, he has a lot of pressure to live up to!
ReplyDeleteAnd I never thought about Hugh Jackman.... he would make an excellent Haymitch.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for Bill Nighy as President Snow. I just love Bill Nighy. But Donald Sutherland is a pretty solid choice too. The casting people really effed up Haymitch though, and I'm kind of bitter and hateful about it. Haymitch is my fave character, and I was totally team Hugh Jackman. I HOPE Woody Harrelson proves me wrong. He was really good in Zombieland, so maybe he can pull this off? I have my doubts. My single, solitary hope hangs on the casting of Finnick. I cannot stress this enough...for the love of all that is good and holy in this world, can we please get Ryan Reynolds to play Finnick? PLEASE?! And don't try to tell me he is too old, because I refuse to believe those abs are too old for anything. As my friend Maegan said, "Do you not have eyes? Age doesn't matter. Only abs matter." Well said.
ReplyDeleteI'm okay with the casting so far. More importantly, I'm interested to see if they can actually capture the characters personality.
ReplyDeleteI always thought Robert Downey Jr would be perfect to play Haymitch, too!
ReplyDeleteReal life people are just never as good as the people in my head. Robert Downey is pretty great though. I love him in everything he does, pretty much.
ReplyDeleteI'm really not good at visualizing specific actors to play parts, so I can't say that I have feelings either way about the selections. I can say that I'm super excited about the movies and can't wait to see how they put the books on the big screen!
ReplyDeleteWow. I don't know who that Gabriel Macht guy is but Yummmmmmmmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteI was just surprised that they finally decided to make it into a movie...a part of me wonders what the rating will be since it's all about 'last tribute standing,' you know?
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of the choice for Peeta at all.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind Woody getting the part he did, but I pictured that character much older for some reason...I guess Woody isn't too young, but older looking than him.
Donald Sutherland is a good choice and good call on Chris Cooper-he would have been good too.
I'm still not completely convinced about the choice for Katniss, so I'll be watching the movie with very low expectations.
I have GOT to get my hands on these books!
