Odds and Ends
•First and foremost, one of my nearest and dearest real life friends, Emily, also happens to be an awesome blogger and is hosting a really awesome giveaway that you should all check out.
(And no, blogging about it doesn't get me an extra entry. I'm telling you about it because it's cool, she's cool, and you should enter.)
(And you should also just follow her blog while you're there because, like I said, she's cool and you're missing out.)
•There are 9 movies nominated for Best Picture. I've seen 2 of them so far. I feel like such a failure. I've added the ones that are already on DVD to my Netflix list and will hopefully catch them in the next couple of weeks. I plan to see The Descendants ASAP, and I'm still on the fence about War Horse. Not because I don't think it's a great movie, but because I have this weird thing with movies about animals that don't talk. I hate seeing animals suffer and get scared. Even more than people. I need help.
•Speaking of needing help, I mentioned yesterday that I started seeing a therapist. Two visits in and I am SO GLAD I did this.
•On an impulse this morning, I bought a bag of M&Ms. Which should be no big deal. Except that I haven't opened them yet because I know as soon as I do I will EAT ALL OF THEM RIGHT NOW.
•I'm currently reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It's really good, except that lately the only time I've had to read has been late at night when I should be going to sleep. It's taken me four days to get through one chapter. Which is frustrating because I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS RIGHT NOW.
•One of the things I'm working on now is patience.
•I'm going to go open those M&Ms now.
•Hey. I'm currently working on patience. Not impulse control.
You are awesome. And if you share this post, you'll be even awesomer!

Step away from the M&Ms Karen. Right now!!! (can I hear crunching?) LOL. I like this kind of post :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, baby steps. Work on one thing at a time. What I want to know is what kind of M&M's were they? There are so many different ones these days. :)
ReplyDeleteWish I were there, I could do some serious damage with those M&M's of yours, except that I'm not eating sugar or food coloring anymore so never mind...
ReplyDeleteHaha! I love this! And it is not weird to hate seeing animals suffer. In fact Brian said in his film classes he learned that audiences would prefer to see the lead actor/actress die than for the dog to die. Strange but true.
ReplyDeletep.s. What else are you supposed to do with M&M's besides eat them? Look at them? Play with them?
Mmmmmm, m&m"S!!!!! my favorite! I haven't checked out the oscars list yet but I'm pretty sure I haven't seen any of the movies on the list!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out Karen! You're awesome!
ReplyDeleteDo you want to see any of the best pic noms when I'm in town (Saturday), or is that cutting it too close?
I'm the same way about animal movies, especially horse movies. I don't like to watch them, even when there is a happy ending.
Get on those M&Ms!
I've only seen one of the Best Picture nominees - and since it was War Horse, yes, go prepared for scared and hurt horse.
ReplyDeletePatience... I don't have any.
ReplyDeleteI think therapy is one of the best gives you can give yourself. It's great.
ReplyDeleteHi Karen! Great post! Sorry I haven't stopped by in quite a long time. But I do think about ya, so that counts, doesn't it?! I, too, do not want to see any animals getting hurt, even in movies when I know it's not really happening! Hmmm, M&Ms...Is it a BIG bag, or a little bag? I like the plain old originals..no peanuts..except once in a while!
ReplyDeleteI hate animal movies! You always know the animal is going to die. They're so depressing! Also, I can never buy M&Ms. Because they would be gone before I got home. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I am the only person in the world who didn't like The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It's been a year and I'm still only halfway through The Girl Who Played with Fire. Hurry and finish the first book so we can discuss everything I didn't like about it!
ReplyDeleteI liked that book! I think you need to be totally awake to read it though, as I had a bit of a hard time deciphering the Nordstroms from the Eckstroms and the Balstroms.
ReplyDeleteI am (luckily) not a movie buff, or I would hoard them like I hoard books. I am not even sure what movies were nominated! I know, you are ashamed of me now.
Emily IS awsome.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've seen any of the Best Pictures nominees, but I don't even know because I don't know what they are. I haven't heard of the two you mentioned, though. How monumentally sad is that?
I think it's healthy to be uncomfortable seeing animals suffer.
I did the same thing with a bag of chocolate covered peanuts yesterday.
I never see the movies that are nominated. Well, hardly ever. I did see One for the Money today...but I'm gonna go and and go out on a limb here and say that that one won't be nominated... lol
ReplyDeleteThis made me laugh! Glad that therapy is going well for you - I'm a fan :)
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm so glad to hear that you're loving therapy! I'm such a big believer in it... I love that it's working for you!
ReplyDeleteDon't ever change, Karen. You crack me the hell up. I'm also glad you are going to see a therapist. Keep us posted. I have been seeing one for several months now and she's worked wonders. I hope you like the one you have chosen.
ReplyDeleteI have the same viewpoints on movies with animals. I always think the same things and have a hard time watching animals suffer.
I haven’t seen many Oscar movies either. And I feel the same way about animals in movies! There is no way I can open a bag of M&Ms and not finish them!
