Project 52: Week 7
People are really taking this seriously, working hard, and crossing some great things off their lists.
It's really cool to see.
As for my own list, I've been working on a few things.
That choir I auditioned for? It's been a LOT of work. We're singing in Latin. And German. And French. And they're hard songs from operas. But I'm doing my best to learn my part. At our last rehearsal, I shocked myself by singing an entire section of a song in Latin without even looking at the words.
It's coming along.
I'm so glad I took the chance on auditioning. It was scary and I really didn't think I'd get in. And if I hadn't auditioned, I would have deprived myself of something that is turning out to be an incredible opportunity.
Honestly, I might have chickened out if it hadn't been on my list.
I'm also doing much better than expected on cutting out soda. When I originally set that goal, the plan was to give it up about 2 days a week or so. And the first few weeks were hard. Surprisingly, it's actually easier for me to cut it out altogether for a month or so than to declare Thursdays "soda-free days", for example.
But with all the trouble sleeping lately, I decided to cut out caffeine. And, really, if I'm not going to drink caffeinated Coke or Diet Coke or Dr. Pepper, what's the point? Giving up soda has been much easier than I expected.
I'm not really sleeping better, but I have been feeling better overall.
There are other things I'm working on, of course. Other plans I'm making. It's only the middle of February. There's a whole lot of year left, but I'm not taking that for granted.
So how are things going for you? If you have an update, please link up down below.
You are awesome. And if you share this post, you'll be even awesomer!

I applaud you're decision to audition for a choir. I also share your addiction to soda. I drink the diet stuff laced with carcinogenic artificial sweeteners and am constantly worried about the health impact. Buoyed by your success, I will similalry try to cut down - drink only on Fridays and Saturdays. Wishing you continued success on your list!

You just reminded me that I need a Diet Coke right now.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're enjoying your choir. What a great opportunity, but, yes, like all things musical, it is a ton of work.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're cutting out soda. Maybe I should do that with you, or at least start now, so when I visit you I won't tempt you into drinking it. But, wait, you were on a no pop kick the last time I visited and you did great!
I do hope you get around to sleeping, but I sure am glad you're feeling better!
I'm glad you didn't chicken out and went for it. Sometimes it's the moments when we go beyond our comfort zone that we realize makes us feel more comfortable!
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff Karen. I am plugging along on my 52 as well.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.

I remember having to sing in Latin when I was in choir in college, and it's harder than one might think, especially if you've never studied Latin! The only phrase I can recall is Kyrie Eleison . . .
ReplyDeleteI think it's amazing that you auditioned for a choir! Wish I had the guts - and ok, it would help if I could sing. :) I was in choir all through grade school, though.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Latin, German, French? Intense! I remember how hard it was for me to give up soda. I did it cold turkey after college when I found out I had three cavities. Since I had never had a cavity in my life it was a huge wakeup call. I had Coke every morning (and afternoons and evenings...) because I didn’t/don’t drink coffee. I do have a Coke now and then at restaurants, but I don’t have any in the house ever.
ReplyDeleteWhat a challenge the choir is for you - but I think it is all a GOOD challenge. A wonderful experience!!
ReplyDeleteI took two years of Latin in high school, but I doubt I could sing in it. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck without caffeine. I've been "dry" for 7 months and I'm feeling great!
You are awesome! I want to hear you sing!
ReplyDeleteI am still refusing to look at my Project 52. Sorry.
My best recommendations for sleeping are teas, but something tells me you've already tried that!
Good for you on giving up the soda! And all those languages? Wow.
ReplyDeleteI would love to be brave like you are and give up the pop and caffeine. I know I need to do it, but I am dreading it so!
ReplyDeleteYou gave up caffeine???!!! Who are you????
ReplyDeleteOh and could you please, please, please sing Happy Birthday to me in Latin? You've got 2 months to practice. :)
What!! It's Week 7?! How did that happen? I need to dig up my list and see if I've done anything on it.
ReplyDeleteI found that I've cut back a lot on my soda intake. Mostly because I'm trying to lose weight and so I'm trying to drink only water. It's been tough, but when I don't back a soda in my lunch, it's surprisingly easy.
I tell myself I need to stop drinking diet coke everyday. Then I ignore myself. I'm so crazy addicted. It's bad bad bad!
ReplyDeleteHow awesome about your choir! Yay for you!!! Sounds tough.
Since I started taking so many dang pills, I stopped drinking water (pills seem to go down better with something sweet). But I need to get back on the water bandwagon. I do only have 1 (caffeine free) soda a day, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm so very proud of you, Karen, and hope that you are just as proud of yourself for all that you are accomplishing this year so far. Auditioning to be in that choir, while scary and daunting, has proven to be such a rewarding thing for you... which should show you that you are capable of much more than you might think! And kudos on the soda... I've been free of caffeine (mostly; I cheat on the weekends) for several months now, and it takes some time, but you DO start to feel better. And I can fall asleep in seconds flat which never happened before.
