It's Time to Fill Out those Ballots

All right, folks.

The Oscars are just HOURS AWAY!

It feels like Christmas Eve around my house tonight. Because there was shopping to do and preparing to make and a whole lot of excitement.

For those of you that are going to Oscar parties around the globe, I'm here to help you out. Because I know that there are still a shocking number of places that don't get many Oscar-nominated films showing at a theater near you.

Whereas I have seen almost all of the movies nominated for stuff, except the documentaries and the foreign films. I still haven't gotten to that point yet.

But anyway, if you have a ballot to fill out and feel at a loss, I'm going to give you my picks. Some of which I'm still going back and forth on and might change between now and showtime.

Best Picture: Argo
Best Director: Stephen Spielberg, Lincoln
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln
Best Actress: Jennifer Lawrence, Silver Linings Playbook
Best Supporting Actor: Tommy Lee Jones, Lincoln--no, Robert DeNiro--no...Tommy Lee Jones. There. Final answer. Maybe.
Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway, Les Misérables
Best Animated Feature: Brave
Best Foreign Film: Amour
Best Original Screenplay: Django Unchained
Best Adapted Screenplay: Argo
Best Costume Design: Anna Karenina
Best Original Song: Adele, "Skyfall" from Skyfall
Best Original Score: John Williams, Lincoln
Best Documentary Feature: 5 Broken Cameras
Best Documentary Short: Inocente
Best Makeup and Hairstyling: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Best Production Design: Lincoln
Best Cinematography: Life of Pi
Film Editing: Argo
Sound Editing: Skyfall
Sound Mixing: Les Misérables
Visual Effects: Marvel's The Avengers
Short Film Animated: Paperman
Short Film Live Action: Death of a Shadow

I usually have about a 70% accuracy rate and I almost always blow it on the short films, the documentaries, and the foreign films. But since Amour is nominated for Best Picture, it's a pretty sure bet in the foreign category. But I'm feeling much less confident in some of the other categories. Like Supporting Actor, Production Design, Sound, etc.

Good luck to you and good luck to all the nominees!

  1. Good picks, Karen! I'm rooting for Argo for Best Picture too! And same with most of the categories. It will be a tight race tomorrow night, but I'm also unsure about some categories.

    I can't wait tomorrow! :D

  3. I think DDL and Anne for sure. I think Jennifer Lawrence will probably win, but I'm not totally confident. I love Waltz and DeNiro, but Tommy Lee Jones has been one of my faves for years. I'd love to see him win. And even though I still haven't seen Argo yet, I'm pulling for it because everyone raves about and I LOVE BEN!

  4. Best Actor: DDL
    Best Actress: Jessica Chastain
Best Director: I cannot say for certain - but why wasn't Kathryn Bigelow nominated here?
Best Supporting Actor: Tommy Lee Jones
Best S. Actress - Anne Hathaway
Best Picture - no words but it's between Argo and Zero Dark Thirty for me. The latter was exceptional!
