The Best 100 Movies According to Karen

The other day, Nathan Bransford posted his list of the 100 Best Movies EVER.

And then he challenged his readers to do the same.

Challenge accepted.

Except that it turned out to be REALLY FREAKING HARD. Because I love movies. And I've seen a lot of them. I've rated nearly 2000 on Netflix, and I'm quite certain I haven't rated every single movie I've ever seen in my life.

But, I did it anyway. And I KNOW this is a list that is going to generate some controversy.

    1. You totally should make a list! I think everyone should do it.

  3. I'm so glad Monty Python and the Holy Grail made the list! It's one of my favorite! You're brave to take on that challenge! I don't think I could have done it. I think I would have gotten to 40 and had an anxiety attack.

    1. How could Monty Python NOT be on a best movie list??

You should try your top 40. That would still be a fun list!

  4. I had a lot of "Hmmm... I haven't seen that" moments, and a couple of "heck yeah" moments.

For some reason the inclusion of Pretty in Pink in particular tickled me.

But I have to say I much perfered Last Crusade over Raiders of the Lost Ark.

My list would have been very different, and I wish I had time to do one! I would include Dogma, and probably a whole lot of others...

  5. These lists are so hard. Your list is little chick-flick heavy for my taste. I just finished watching the original 3 Star Wars movies with the family and we loved them, but it amazes me at just how bad an actor Mark Hamill is, and Carrie Fisher for that matter and even Harrison Ford is a few years away from his best. Love Bogey so I woulda included Casablanca, The Caine Mutiny and the Maltese Falcon. Oh and Clint Eastwood movies...well, I could go on, but I won't...(Glad you put So I married an axe murderer - Love MIke meyers (and only partly because he's Canadian - he's one of the funniest writers/actors around)

    1. Actually, I take back my chick-flick comment - there are a few I wouldn't have on my list (substitute Dirty Harry for Sleepless in Seattle, for example), but in a list of 100, you don't have a lot. Oh. Schindler's List remains one of my favourites...Okay, I gotta stop. Maybe I will do my own list...

  6. Maybe I am a weirdo, I liked UP....but only kind of. I am sure it would make a lot of people's list, but not mine.

    I also hated the artist.

I am glad you included a lot of fun films, mine would for sure have NACHO Libre and Bridget Jones Diary.

  9. You did a great job. I am not a big movie girl but of the ones I've seen on here, I agree. Elf especially made me smile. But what about Garden State and Annie? :) And my new favorite, Silver Lining Playbook?

  10. Hey Karen, love the list! No God father, Apocalypse now? Happy to see The empire strikes back, I love the whole trilogy. Thanks for a fun post, looking forward to more.

  11. Of all the lists I think yours is closest to mine! I might have a few more sci fi movies though.

And I'm rethinking maybe putting It's A wonderful life at the top of my list too.

  12. All I know is that I clearly have some movie watching to do!

  13. Yay, Hoosiers! I forgot about that one. Haven't seen it in ages, will have to pop it in soon!

  14. This is a great list. I'll be honest - I haven't seen every movie on the list, but I loved nearly every movie on there. Except Goonies: I think I enjoy Goonies for sentimental reasons, but when I watched it again, I actually thought it was terrible.

  15. I love Tom Cruise, but MI3? Really?

  16. This is a good list. I mean, you have Princess Bride, Holy Grail and Star Wars on it, so we are good to go. I am partial to Spaceballs though...

  17. I'm copying this list down, along with AFI's, list and getting to work! I only have a few off your list to see so I'll start there. With Top Gun! :)

  18. That's impressive. I only maintain a top five and a bottom five. Of course, I can't really remember what is in my top 5 or bottom 5 at any given moment. Sigh. I know that among my top 5 are:

    1. Lucky Number Slevin
    2. Legends of the Fall
    3. Primal Fear

I think Titanic is up there and the first Godfather. Maybe I should write that down somewhere more permanent!

  19. Awesome list, Karen. And a great reminder that I need to watch more movies :) Just started the King's Speech the other night and really loved it. Hope to finish it tonight!

  20. I applaud the inclusion of Clue. I cannot express how much I love that movie. I kind of can't believe that Splash is on there, but not Singin' in the Rain. I mean...SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, Karen! How is it not on this list?!?
