About Me
Sometime soon after, my parents left the Air Force and moved back to the land of their nativity, California. I may only have been 6 months old, but it was love at first sight.
I have a freakishly good memory for things. I remember moving into our first house when I was 2. Going to my first Angels game when I was 3. Watching Diana Spencer's neverending train follow her as she marched down the aisle to marry her not-so-handsome Prince. But I don't remember the day my parents brought home a little bundle of pest, called him my "brother" and ordered me to play nice. Probably because I was only 18 months old at the time. But I do remember sometime later, though, when I realized I would much rather have a kitten.
It's funny because I'm friends with my brother, Marc, now. We've been through a lot together. Our parents' divorce when I was 9 and he was 7. Parental remarriages and half-siblings and step-siblings. The Clinton Years. Game 4 of the 2008 ALDS.
He's married now and saw fit to reward my sisterly awesomeness by providing the cutest nephew that was ever born. He found me a pretty kick ass sister-in-law, Kristi, too. While some in my acquaintance complain about their in-laws, I not-so-silently gloat that I not only tolerate mine, but actually genuinely like her, too.
Marc and I have a half-brother and a half-sister that are also pretty fantastic. Of the four of us, I'm the oldest and also the shortest. By a lot. And they never let me forget it. Ever. But it's okay because they know I'm the boss.
(Okay, fine. They let me pretend to be the boss. Whatever.)
At age 21, I served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It was a great experience, though there were times when living in the frozen tundra of Montreal, Québec felt more like banishment. It was there that I formed a rather strong opinion of Canadians. Namely, that they are very Canadian.
Upon returning home, I was placed under some sort of either hypnosis or psychosis, I never did determine which, and became convinced that Utah was the place for me. So I packed up my belongings and headed to Weber State University in Ogden where I finished out my education with double Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and French. I put all that education to good use by landing myself a job at the front desk of a Tutoring Center at a small community college in...you guessed it...California. The degrees were intended to be useful in a legal career I suddenly decided I didn't really want.
And now I'm biding my time, waiting and planning and working toward what I really want to be when I grow up. What is that, you ask? Well, I'm sure you haven't ever run across this in the blogoverse. I'm very unique that way. I want to become...a writer. A novelist. A person who gets paid money by people who want to put her words on paper. Or an e-reader. Whatever. I embrace technology.
As of right now I'm single. Sometimes happily, other times...not so much. I don't have any children, though I'm determined to spoil that nephew as much as possible. I spend my days working long hours, volunteering with a girls' youth group called Job's Daughters and dedicating time to serving the women in my local LDS congregation.
In the rare free time I have, I write a lot, I read not as much but still a lot. I'm a big fan of movies and TV. And I am hopelessly devoted to my favorite baseball team, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Life in Southern California may not always be as glamorous as it seems, but I kind of dig it. Plus, I get to live in a place people actually want to go to on vacation. So let's be friends. And then you can come and visit me and I'll take you to Disneyland and all places touristy. Or we could just hang out. I'm cool like that.
